모든 일에는 비결과 방법 그리고 길이 있다. 같은 음식점이라도 매우 맛이 좋은 식당이 있다. 거기에는 비법이 있다. 아무리 애를 쓰고 노력해도 안 되는 것이, 해결 되는 방법과 비결이 있다. 그것은 마치 수학공식과 같다. 어려운 문제도 공식만 알면 문제는 풀 수 있다. 오늘 성경은 지혜를 얻는 비결을 알려 준다.
오늘 성경은 지혜가 부족 할 때 어떻게 해야 하는지를 보여 준다. 성경은 “너희 중에”라고 말한다. 너희는 주 예수 그리스도를 구주로 믿고 구원 받은 사람 곧 모든 성도를 가리킨다. 구원 받은 사람이 믿음으로 살면서 해결해야 하는 삶의 해법을 보여 준다. “너희 중에 누구든지”라는 말은 예외가 없다는 뜻이다. 주를 믿고 섬기는 모든 사람은 다 해당된다. 어른, 아이, 남자, 여자 등 누구나 할 것 없이 다 포함 된다. 즉, 주를 믿는 모든 사람에게 주시는 교훈이다.
오늘 성경은 “지혜가 부족하거든”라고 말한다. ‘지혜’의 개념은 구약과 신약에서 나타난다. 또한 세상적인 지혜의 개념이 있다. 세상에서 말하는 지혜는 문제와 일을 특출하게 잘 해결하는 능력을 말한다. 보통 일반사람은 어려워 하는 문제를 쉽게 풀면 지혜가 있다고 말한다. 옛날 중국 삼국시대에 제갈량이라는 책사가 있었다. 제갈량은 전쟁에서 패한적이 없다. 그는 위나라 군대로부터 하루만에 10만개의 화살을 확보했다. 왕과 신하들은 감탄했다. 미국 $100 지폐에 나오는 인물이 벤자민 프랭클린이다. 그는 미국 건국의 아버지다. 프랭클린은 피뢰침을 발명했다. 그는 미국 독립선언서 작성에 기여했다. 그는 미국의 경제, 사회, 정치, 과학 분야에서 큰 업적을 쌓았다. 그래서 대통령이 아닌 사람으로서 미국 지폐에 등장하는 2명 중 한명이다. 이러한 지혜는 신앙에 근거한 지혜는 아니다. 하지만 그것은 하나님께서 주시는 지혜이다.
솔로몬은 지혜의 왕이다. 그는 기도를 통해서 하나님으로부터 지혜를 얻었다. 솔로몬은 지혜의 성경인 잠언을 썼다. 그는 명재판을 했다. 두 여인이 솔로몬 왕에게 재판을 요청했다. 그 내용은 이렇다. 두 여인은 한 집에 살면서 3일 간격으로 아이를 출산했다. 그런데 한 여인의 아이가 죽었다. 죽은 아이의 엄마가 밤에 몰래 산 아이를 자기에게 데려오고 죽은 아이를 산 아이의 엄마 곁에 두었다. 산 아이의 엄마는 아침에 일어나서 죽은 아이가 자기 아이가 아닌 것을 금방 알았다. 그래서 산 아이가 자기 아이라고 주장했다. 하지만 죽은 아이의 엄마는 산 아이가 자기 아이라고 주장했다. 솔로몬 왕은 칼로 산 아이를 반으로 나누어 가지라고 했다. 그 때에 산 아이의 엄마는 아이를 죽이지 말고 다른 여인에게 주라고 했다. 하지만 죽은 아이의 엄마는 반으로 나누어서 똑 같이 갖자고 했다. 솔로몬은 죽이지 말라고 한 여자가 산 아이의 엄마라고 판결했다. 그래서 사람들은 솔로몬을 지혜의 왕이라고 칭했다.
성경은 하나님 말씀이 지혜라고 말한다. 하나님은 지혜의 하나님이시다. 그래서 하나님으로부터 나오는 말씀이 지혜다. 또한 성경은 말씀을 순종하는 것이 지혜라고 말한다(신 4:6). 말씀을 순종하지 않는 것은 어리석은 것이다. 신약에서는 예수 그리스도가 지혜라고 말한다(고전 1:30). 예수님은 하나님의 부르심을 받은 모든 사람의 지혜가 되신다(고전 1:24). 하나님의 지혜가 십자가와 부활의 주님에게 나타나서 우리를 죄와 사망에서 구원했다. 구원과 영생을 얻는 지혜가 주님이시다. 모든 지혜는 하나님에게 속했다. 은사, 재능, 실력 등은 하나님이 주신 것이다. 공부를 하고 스포츠를 하는 지혜도 하나님이 주신다.
그런데 오늘 성경은 “지혜가 부족하거든”이라고 말한다. 사실 실질적으로 부족한 것은 채워야 한다. 통장에 지불해야 할 돈이 부족하면 반드시 채우게 된다. 통에 물이 부족하면 채우게 된다. 지혜도 마찬가지다. 지혜가 부족할 때에는 채워야 한다. 나는 지혜가 넘쳐서 더 이상 필요가 없다고 주장할 사람은 없다. 사실 우리는 무슨 일을 하거나 공부를 할 때에 많은 한계를 느낀다. ‘내가 좀 더 잘하고 실력이 있었으면 좋겠다’라고 생각한다. 우리는 밥을 먹을 때에 만족스럽게 먹으면 부족하다고 느끼지 않는다. 우리는 지혜가 부족하기 때문에 만족감을 가질 수 없다. 우리가 지혜와 힘과 능력이 없어서 힘들 때에 어떻게 해야 하는가? 해결하는 방법은 무엇인가?
지혜를 얻는 방법은 여러 가지다. 사람들은 주로 책을 통해서 지혜를 얻는다. 또한 사람들은 나이 많고 경험 많은 사람들에게서 배운다. 어떤 사람들은 성공한 사람들에게서 지혜를 배운다. 사업하는 사람은 사업에 성공한 사람을 롤 모델로 삼는다. 지혜를 얻는 가장 좋은 방법은 하나님께 구하는 것이다. 오늘 성경은 하나님은 모든 사람에게 후히 주신다고 말한다. 하나님은 차별이 없다. 주님은 특별한 사람에게만 지혜를 주시지 않는다. 하나님은 어떤 사람을 특별히 구별해서 지혜를 주시지 않는다. 하나님은 구하는 모든 사람에게 지혜를 주신다. 다니엘은 하나님께 지혜를 구했다. 그래서 하나님은 다니엘에게 지혜를 주셨다(단 2:17-23). 다니엘은 하나님이 주신 지혜로 느부갓네살 왕의 꿈을 해석했다. 우리는 하나님께 지혜를 구하여 얻을 수 있다.
하나님은 지혜를 구하는 사람에게 후하게 주신다. 주님은 까탈스럽고 인색하지 않다. 주님은 너그럽고 자비롭게 주신다. 주님은 구하는 사람을 꾸짖지 않는다. 사람은 몇 번 구하면 야단치고 싫어하고 거부한다. ‘왜 또 나한테 달라고 하느냐’라고 한다. 하지만 사랑의 아버지 하나님은 우리가 구할 때에 항상 주실 준비를 하고 계신다. 열 번, 백 번, 천 번, 만 번을 구해도 항상 너그럽게 주신다. 주님은 많이 구하는 것을 더 좋아 하신다. 그래서 우리는 너그럽게 주시는 하나님께 지혜를 구해야 한다.
도둑이 가난한 집에 들어가면 후회한다. 그는 대상을 잘 못 찾은 것이다. 지혜는 적절한 대상에게 구해야 얻는다. 지혜의 하나님이 그 대상이다. 우리는 살면서 수많은 지혜가 필요하다. 신앙생활을 잘 하는 지혜가 필요하다. 우리는 주님을 잘 믿고 섬기는 지혜, 말씀을 잘 알고 깨닫고 행하는 지혜가 필요하다. 그리고 우리는 맡은 직분을 감당하고, 공부를 하고, 직장생활을 하고, 자녀교육을 하고, 가정생활과 인간관계에 지혜가 필요하다. 우리는 어떤 문제를 해결하고, 말과 행동에 있어서, 그리고 주님을 영화롭고 존귀하게 하는 지혜가 필요하다. 이 모든 지혜는 구하는 사람에게 하나님이 주신다. 우리는 지혜를 얻을 수 있는 확실한 방법을 배워야 한다. 그것은 지혜의 하나님께 기도하는 것이다. 모든 지혜의 주님께 지혜를 구해서 얻기를 바란다, 그래서 지혜로운 사람이 되어서 지혜롭게 살기를 주님의 이름으로 바란다.
The Way to Gain Wisdom (James 1:5)
There are solutions, recipes, and ways to all things. Among restaurants, there are ones whose food is especially good. They have a secret recipe. Even things that are hard to solve with much labor and effort have proper ways to solve. They are like mathematical formulae. Difficult problems can be solved with the correct formula. Today’s Scripture tells us the secret to gaining wisdom.
Today’s Scripture shows us what we ought to do when we lack wisdom. The Bible says, “If any of you.” You refer to all believers who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and are saved. He tells us the solution to problems we face in life as we live by faith. “If any of you” means there is no exception. What he is about to say is applicable to all the believers in Jesus Christ. It applies to adults, children, men, women, etc.. In other words, it is a teaching that the Lord is directing toward all the believers.
Today’s Scripture says “if you lack wisdom.” The concept of ‘wisdom’ is shown in the Old and New Testament. There is also worldly wisdom. The wisdom of this world refers to the ability to solve a problem exceptionally well. If a person solves a problem that is considered difficult by the general population, he is thought to be wise. During the Three Kingdoms period in China, there was a strategist named Zhuge Liang. Zhuge Liang never lost in battles. He secured one hundred thousand arrows in one day from the army of Wei. The king and his officials were very impressed. On the $100 bill is Benjamin Franklin. He is a Founding Father of the United States. Franklin invented the lightning rod. And he contributed to writing the Declaration of Independence. He had great achievements in the United States’ economy, politics, society, and science. So he is one of the two people who are not presidents and yet are portrayed on a US bill. These wisdoms are not based on faith. However, they still come from God.
Solomon was the king of wisdom. He gained wisdom by praying to God. Solomon was the author of Proverbs. He also led the famous trial. The content goes like this. There were two women who lived in one house and they both conceived a child three days apart. However, one of the children died. The mother of the dead child secretly switched her child with the other woman’s. When the other woman woke up the next day, she immediately noticed that the child was not hers. However, the mother of the dead child insisted that the live one was hers. They came to King Solomon for a trial where King Solomon asked that the live child be cut in half so the two women can each keep half. The mother of the dead child agreed to have the living child cut in half. The real mother, on the other hand, rejected and said to give the child to the other woman. King Solomon judged that the mother who did not want the child cut in half to be the real mother. Thus people complimented King Solomon and called him the king of wisdom.
The Bible says that the Word of God is wisdom. God is God of wisdom. That is why even the word that comes from the mouth of God is wisdom. The Bible also says that obeying the Word of God is wisdom (Deuteronomy 4:6). It is foolish to disobey the Word. The New Testament teaches us that Jesus Christ is wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:30). Jesus is the wisdom to all who have been called by God (1 Corinthians 1:24). The wisdom of God was revealed in the crucifixion and resurrection of the Lord and delivered us from sin and death. The wisdom of gaining salvation and eternal life is the Lord. All wisdom belongs to God. Gifts, abilities, and skills are given by God. God gives wisdom to study and even play sports.
Today’s Scripture says, “if you lack wisdom.” If we lack something essential, we need to fill the gap. If the bank account has insufficient funds, we need to deposit more money. If a jar does not have enough water, we need to pour more water. The same goes with wisdom. If we lack wisdom, we need to gain wisdom. There is no one who can claim they do not need wisdom because they have it in abundance. We feel our limits when we are studying or working. We often think, “I wish I was better and had more skills.” When we eat enough, we don’t feel unsatisfied. The reason we are not satisfied with our knowledge is because we lack wisdom. What should we do when we are having trouble due to lack of wisdom, strength, and power? What is the way to solve this problem?
There are many ways to gain wisdom. People generally gain wisdom from reading books. Others learn from older, more experienced people. Still others learn from those who have been successful. Business people consider other successful business people their role models. However, the best way to gain wisdom is to ask God. Today’s Scripture tells us that God gives everyone generously. God does not discriminate. The Lord does not give wisdom to a select group of people. God gives wisdom to anyone who asks. Daniel asked God for wisdom, so God gave him wisdom (Daniel 2:17-23). Daniel explained King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream with the wisdom God gave him. We can gain wisdom by asking God.
God generously gives wisdom to those who ask. God is not reluctant or stingy. The Lord gives generously without reproach. If you ask a person too much, they get irritated and deny you. They ask, “Why are you asking me again?” However, our God the Father of love is always ready to give when we ask. Even if we ask ten, hundred, thousand, or ten thousand times, God gives us generously. The Lord is pleased when we ask much. Thus, we must seek wisdom from God who gives generously.
When a thief enters the house of someone poor, they regret it. They found the wrong target. Wisdom is gained when you ask the right one. God of Wisdom is the right one to ask. We need a lot of wisdom as we live. We need the wisdom to live a good life of faith. We need wisdom to serve the Lord as well as to understand the Word and put it into practice. We also need wisdom to carry out our duty, do well at school and at work, educate our children, and in our relationship with family and others. We need wisdom to solve a problem, in our speech and action, and to glorify and honor the Lord. All of this wisdom is given to the one who asks God. We need to learn the right way to gain wisdom; that is by praying to God of Wisdom. I wish in the Name of the Lord that you will receive wisdom by asking the Lord of all wisdom.
