부부가 서로 다른 마음과 생각을 가지면 충돌하고 다툰다. 그 결과 그 가정은 분쟁과 불화가 발생한다. 분쟁하고 다투는 가정은 하나되고 화평하기 어렵다. 교회도 마찬가지다. 교회가 하나님의 은혜와 사랑 안에서 하나가 되는 길은 무엇인가? 오늘 성경은 그것을 교훈한다.
고린도교회는 분쟁과 분열이 있었다. 바울은 고린도교회에 분쟁이 있다는 소식을 들었다. 그래서 고린도교회의 목회자인 바울은 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 화평하기를 권면한다. 주 예수 그리스도의 이름은 주님의 인격과 권위를 지니고 있다. 바울은 주 예수 그리스도의 권위로 주님을 대신하여 권면한다.
고린도교회는 4개의 당파가 있었다. 그것은 바울파, 아볼로파, 게바파, 그리고 그리스도파이다. 이러한 분쟁은 교회의 화평과 하나됨을 방해하였다. 교회는 한 주, 한 하나님을 믿고, 한 성령을 받은 한 몸 공동체다. 그래서 교회는 주 예수 그리스도 안에서 하나다. 여러 지체가 모여서 주님의 한 몸을 이룬다. 교회는 여러 성도가 모여서 하나가 된다. 그렇기 때문에 교회 안에는 여러 파가 있어서는 안된다. 교회는 손파가 있고, 발파가 있고, 머리파, 눈파, 귀파 등이 있어서는 안된다. 교회는 이러한 여러 지체가 모여서 한 몸이 된다.
교회 안에는 목사파, 장로파, 집사파, 권사파가 있어서는 안된다. 교회는 여러 파로 분열하여 싸우고, 대립하고, 분쟁해서는 안된다. 분쟁은 한 몸된 주님의 교회의 본래의 모습이 아니다. 그것은 교회의 머리되시고 주인되시는 주님의 뜻이 아니다. 주님은 온 교회가 하나되길 원하신다. 주님은 모든 성도가 하나되고 화목하길 원하신다. 자녀가 부모와 분쟁하고, 부모가 자녀와 분쟁하고, 형제자매가 서로 다투는 것은 가정의 화평을 깨뜨린다. 그러한 가정은 하나되고 화목할 수 없다.
교회는 하나님의 자녀들의 모임이다. 그래서 교회는 하나님의 한 가족공동체다. 교회의 분쟁과 불화는 주님의 가족공동체의 화평을 해친다. 교회의 분쟁은 여러 성도들에게 큰 상처를 준다. 분쟁은 주님에게 큰 해를 끼친다. 다투는 교회는 안팎으로 고통을 겪고 비난을 받는다. 그래서 오늘 성경은 교회가 하나되는 길을 제시한다. 교회가 하나되기 위해서는 어떻게 해야 할까요?
바울은 ‘모두가 같은 말을 해야 한다’고 가르친다. 모든 성도가 같은 말을 해야 한다. 그러면 교회는 하나될 수 있다. 불화하고 분열하는 교회는 서로 대립하고 서로 다른 말을 한다. 그래서 교회가 하나될 수 없다. 우리가 같은 말을 하기 위해서는 같은 생각을 가져야 한다. 말은 생각에서 나오기 때문이다. ‘우리교회는 참 은혜롭죠’ 하면 ‘예, 그렇고 말고요’하면 하나된다. 하지만 ‘아니요, 뭐가 그래요’ 하면 교회는 하나되기 어렵다. ‘우리 목사님은 참 은헤롭죠, 목사님은 참 온유하고, 겸손하고, 진실하고 말씀도 좋아요’ ‘그렇습니다. 맞습니다’라고 하면 하나된다. 왜냐하면 서로 같은 말을 하기 때문이다. 그런데 다른 사람이 ‘아니요, 나는 그렇게 생각안해요’하면 서로 말이 틀리기 때문에 하나되기 어렵다. ‘우리교회 장로님, 집사님, 권사님은 참 좋으신 분들이죠. 모두가 신실하고 잘 섬기시죠’하면, ‘예, 그렇습니다. 맞습니다’고 하면 하나된다. 하지만 ‘아니요, 뭐가 그래요’하면 불화하기 쉽다. 우리는 하나되기 위해서 서로 같은 말해야 한다. 온 교회가 하나되고 화평하기 위해서 항상 같은 말을 해야 한다.
교회가 하나되기 위해서는 분쟁이 없어야 한다. 교회 안에는 대립과 다툼이 없어야 한다. 교회 안에 목사파가 있고 장로파가 있으면 대립한다. 그러면 교회는 분쟁하고 화목하기가 어렵다. 분쟁하는 교회는 서로 다투고 분열한다. 어떤 교회는 목회자와 성도, 성도와 성도끼리 치열하게 싸운다. 그 교회는 결국 나누어진다. 성도들이 큰 상처를 입고 교회를 떠난다. 예수님의 이름이 많은 욕을 먹고 교회가 비난을 받는다. 그 결과로 전도의 문도 닫히게 된다. 따라서 교회는 분쟁을 피해야 한다.
교회가 하나되기 위해서는 ‘같은 마음과 같은 뜻을 가져야 한다’ 공동체 내에서 마음과 뜻이 같으면 자연스럽게 하나된다. 성도들이 서로 다른 마음과 뜻을 가지면 하나되기 어렵다. 그 이유는 같은 뜻을 가진 사람들끼리 분열하기 때문이다. 어떤 교회는 마음이 맞지 않아서 2개, 3개로 교회가 나누어 진다. 교회가 화평하고 하나되기 위해서는 서로 같은 마음을 가져야 한다. 모든 성도가 교회를 위하는 마음이 같아야 한다. 모든 성도가 한 마음으로 섬겨야 한다. 모든 성도가 서로 사랑하는 마음을 가져야 한다. 모든 성도가 서로 겸손하고, 온유하고, 화평하고, 선하고, 섬기고, 감사하는 마음을 가져야 한다.
한 쪽은 교회를 위하는 마음이 있고 한 쪽은 그렇지 않으면 하나되지 못한다. 한 성도는 사랑하고 다른 성도는 미워하면 하나되기 어렵다. 한 성도는 겸손하고 다른 성도는 교만하면 하나되기 어렵다. 목회자와 성도가 같은 마음을 가져야 한다. 모든 성도가 주님을 사랑하고 순종하는 마음을 가져야 한다. 그러면 교회는 온전히 하나될 수 있다. 우리는 주님의 한 몸 공동체로서 하나되기 위해서 힘써야 한다. 그래서 우리는 주님을 기쁘시게 하고 영화롭게 해야 한다.
Being Perfectly United (1 Corinthians 1:10)
When a husband and wife have different opinions, they get into a conflict and argument. As a result, dispute and dissension occurs in their family. It is difficult for a family who disagree and quarrel with each other to become united and harmonious. Same applies to the church. What is the way for the church to become of one accord in God’s grace and love? Today’s passage teaches us this.
There was a dispute and dissension in the Corinthian church. Paul heard the news, so as the minister of the Corinthian church, he advised them to be in peace with each other in the name of Jesus Christ. The name of Jesus Christ has Christ’s character and authority. Paul advises the believers through the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, on the Lord’s behalf.
Now there were 4 factions in the church of Corinth. They were the Paul party, the Apollos party, the Cephas party, and the Christ party. These factions prevented the church from becoming united. The church is a one body community that believes in one Lord, one God, and that received one Spirit. Therefore, the church is one in the Lord Jesus Christ. Many different members come together to make one body of the Lord. The church becomes one through the coming together of many members. Thus, there should not be many factions within the church. The church should not have the hand party, the foot party, the head party, the eye party, or the ear party. The church becomes one body through the consolidation of various members.
In the church, there should not be the pastor party, the elder party, the deacon party, or the gwonsa party. It should not be in discord, conflict, or dispute. Discord is not the original nature of the church, which is the body of Christ. This is not the will of Jesus Christ, who is Lord and head of the church. Jesus wants the entire church to become one. He wants all the believers to be in one accord and harmony. Dispute between parents and children, or between siblings destroys peace in the family. Such families cannot be united or harmonious.
The church is the gathering of the children of God. Therefore, the church is a family community of God. Conflict and discord in the church demolishes peace of the family community of the Lord. They inflict big scars in the hearts of the church members. Moreover, discord hurts the Lord. The church that is in conflict experiences pain internally and externally, and is criticized. Therefore, today’s passage recommends the way for the church to be of one accord. What should the church do to become one?
Paul says, ‘all of you [should] agree with one another in what you say’. All believers and members of the church should be in agreement. Then the church can become united. Churches in conflict have members of the church who are in disagreement. They cannot be united. To be in agreement, we must share the same thoughts because words come out of our thoughts. If one says, ‘Our church is full of grace’ then another says ‘Yes, of course’ for a church that is united. However, if another says, ‘No, I disagree’ then it is difficult for the church to be united. If a church member says, ‘Our pastor is full of grace, kind, humble, and truthful, and his words are good.’ and another member says, ‘Yes, that is true,’ then the church is in one accord. However, if a church member says, “No, I do not agree,’ then it’s hard for them to unite because they are in disagreement. If one says, ‘Our elders, deacons, and gwonsas are very good people and faithful’ and another says, ‘Yes, that is true,’ then the church is in unity. However, if another says, ‘No, I don’t think that way,’ the church can easily have internal conflict. To become united, we must be in agreement. For the whole church to become one and harmonious, we should be in agreement.
For the church to be united, there should not be dissensions. There should not be conflicts or disputes in the church. If there is the pastor party and the elder party, the church clashes. In some churches, the pastor and church members, and the church members among themselves get into severe conflicts. Consequently, they become divided. Many church members are internally wounded and leave the church. And the name of Jesus and the church are criticized. As a result, this may hinder evangelism. Thus, churches must avoid dissensions.
For the church to be united, they should be united in mind and thought. If the minds and thoughts are united in a community, it seamlessly becomes united. But not so when the believers have different minds and thoughts. Some churches divide into two or three factions because they are in disagreement. The church should have one mind to be in peace and united. All the believers should have the same mind and concerns for the church. All the believers should serve with one mind. They should love each other. They should be humble, kind, seek peace, good, serving, and thankful.
If one group in the church is dedicated to the church but another group isn’t, the church cannot be united. If one believer loves but another believer hates, then there is conflict. If one church member is humble but another member is arrogant, it is difficult for the church to be united. The pastor and believers must have one mind. All the church members must have the mind of loving and obeying Jesus Christ. Then the church can be perfectly united. We must make every effort to be united as the body of Christ, and please and glorify the Lord.
