사무엘 선지자가 다윗에게 기름을 부었다. 그 때부터 다윗에게 성령의 권능이 임하였다(삼상 16:13). 그 후로 그는 하나님의 사람, 믿음의 사람, 지혜의 사람으로서 살게 되었다. 예수님은 성령으로 잉태되어 태어나시고, 성령으로 사시고, 성령으로 사역하셨다. 오늘 본문이 그것을 증거한다. 특별히 오늘 읽은 성경은 성령의 주님의 사역을 묘사하고 있다.
오늘 성경은 ‘주 여호와의 영이 내게 내리셨으니’라고 말한다. 주는 사람을 포함한 천지 만물의 주인이라는 뜻이다. 또한 만물의 다스리는 주권자로서의 하나님을 가리킨다. 여호와는 천지를 창조하신 하나님의 고유명사다. 여호와가 참 하나님이시다. 만유의 주 되시는 여호와 하나님의 영은 성령을 말한다. 누가복음 4장에는 주의 성령으로 기록되어 있다(눅 4:18-19). 본문의 ‘내게’는 물론 예수 그리스도를 말한다. 주의 성령이 예수님에게 임하셨다. 성령의 임재는 기름 부음으로 표현된다. 기름 부음은 성령의 임재를 상징한다. 예수님은 성령으로 기름 부음을 받은 메시야다. 예수님께 임한 성령은 지혜, 총명, 모략, 재능, 지식, 그리고 여호와를 경외하는 영이다(사 11:2). 우리 역시 주 예수를 구주로 믿음으로 성령의 기름 부음을 받고 성령의 권능으로 산다.
예수님의 구원 사역은 전적으로 성령으로 이루어진 사역이다. 예수님의 복음 전도, 치유, 기적, 표적, 귀신 쫓는 사역, 능력 행하심, 가르침, 십자가와 부활 사역은 성령의 권능의 사역이다. 우리의 믿음, 속죄, 구원, 영생 등 모든 믿음의 삶 역시 성령으로 이루어진다. 성령은 우리가 새 사람으로 거듭나게 하고, 새 마음을 갖게 하고, 새로운 피조물로서 하나님의 형상을 회복하게 한다. 성령은 우리가 새 사람으로 살게 한다. 예수님처럼 믿음으로, 말씀으로 거룩한 삶을 살게 한다. 성령으로 사는 삶은 곧 성령의 예수님을 본받는 삶이다.
주님의 성령 사역은 가난한 사람에게 복음을 전하는 것이다. 예수님은 성령으로 복음 곧 좋은 소식을 전하셨다. 특히 가난한 사람에게 복된 기쁨의 소식을 전하셨다. 가난한 사람은 세상에서 소유가 없다. 그들은 곤경에 처하고, 힘이 없고, 눌리고, 억압 받는 환경에 있다. 성령의 주님은 그들에게 희망의 기쁜 소식을 전해 주셨다. 그들은 복음을 듣고, 믿고, 구원 받고, 천국을 유업으로 받는다. 성령의 예수님은 절망 속에 있는 온 세상에 희망의 좋은 소식을 전하셨다. 주님은 심령이 가난하여 세상의 것을 의지 하지 않는 사람, 곧 주님만 의지하며 사는 사람에게 복음을 전하셨다. 오직 성령의 주님만 의지하며 사는 우리에게 예수님은 영원한 좋은 소식을 전해 주셨다. 우리는 그 좋은 소식을 듣고 구원 받은 복된 삶을 산다. 우리 역시 성령으로 주님의 복된 소식을 전한다.
성령의 예수님은 상한 마음을 치료하신다. 주님은 죄로 인해서 상한 심령을 고치신다. 또한 주님은 세상에 살면서 상처받고, 찢기고, 병든 마음을 치유하신다. 상하고 병든 마음은 치유가 필요하다. 그래서 성령의 주님은 상한 마음을 치유하신다. 우리는 사람이나 여러 환경 가운데서 받는 마음의 상처를 회복해야 한다. 몸의 상처가 치유되고 회복이 되는 것처럼 반드시 회복되어야 한다. 그렇지 않으면 병으로 남게 되고 수많은 영적인 부작용과 고통이 따른다. 우리는 성령의 주님의 말씀으로 치유 받아야 한다.
성령의 주님은 하나님의 보내심을 받아서 죄의 포로 된 사람을 자유케 하신다(롬 6:18, 22). 우리는 죄의 종이요 포로였다. 그런데 주님께서 십자가의 속죄를 통하여 의의 종, 하나님의 종이 되게 하셨다. 하나님은 본래 우리를 죄의 종으로 만드시지 않았다. 사람이 죄를 짓고 죄의 포로가 되었다. 누가 죄의 포로인 우리를 자유케 할 것인가? 바로 성령의 주님이 우리를 자유하게 하신다. 우리는 스스로 죄의 속박에서 벗어날 수 없다. 오직 성령으로 오신 십자가의 주님만이 우리를 자유케 하신다. 우리는 그 주님을 기억해야 한다.
성령의 주님은 사망의 권세에 갇힌 나를 자유케 하신다. 성경은 말한다. “그러므로 이제 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 자에게는 결코 정죄함이 없나니 이는 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 생명의 성령의 법이 너를 죄와 사망의 법에서 행방하였음이라”(롬 8:1-2). 죽음은 죄의 결과다(롬 5:12). 결국 죄가 해결되면 사망은 해결된다. 성령의 주 예수님은 십자가를 통해서 죄를 해결하셨다. 또한 주님은 부활을 통해서 사망을 폐하시고 썩지 않을 영원한 생명을 우리에게 주셨다(딤후 1:10). 나를 사망의 감옥에서 나오게 하신 분이 성령의 예수님이시다. 주님은 성령의 권능으로 죽음을 이기셨다. 우리 또한 성령의 권능으로 죽음을 이기고 부활한다(롬 8:11; 고후 5:4-5). 우리는 성령의 예수님이 나를 사망의 감옥에서 해방하신 것을 기억하며 감사하며 살아야 한다.
Lord Jesus of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 61:1)
Prophet Samuel anointed David, and since then, David was filled with the Holy Spirit (1 Samuel 16:13). Afterward, he lived as a man of God, a man of faith, and a man of wisdom. Jesus was born through the Holy Spirit, lived by the Spirit, and ministered by the Spirit. Today’s passage testifies to this. What we read today in particular describes Jesus’ ministry.
Today’s passage says, “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me.” In other words, Jesus is the Lord of all things on earth, including humans. Moreover, he is the God, the Sovereign Lord over all things. Jehovah refers to God who created heaven and earth. Jehovah is the true God. The Spirit of God, who is the Lord of all, refers to the Holy Spirit. Luke chapter 4 refers to it as the Spirit of the Lord (Luke 4:18-19). “On me” in today’s passage refers to Jesus Christ. The Spirit of the Lord came on Jesus. The presence of the Holy Spirit is expressed as anointing. Anointing represents the presence of the Spirit. Jesus is the Messiah who was anointed with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit that came on Jesus was the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, and the knowledge and fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:2). Likewise, we also live by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the anointing of the Spirit by believing in Jesus our Lord.
The ministry of salvation was achieved entirely through the Holy Spirit. Jesus’ ministry of preaching the gospel, healing, miracles, wonders, casting out demons, power, teaching, and the cross and the resurrection are the ministries of the Holy Spirit’s power. Our faith, forgiveness, salvation, eternal life and the entire life of faith are achieved through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit makes us born again, have a new mind, and restore the image of God as new creatures. The Holy Spirit enables us to live as new selves, living a holy life by faith and the word of God, just like Jesus. Living by the Holy Spirit is following the example of Jesus.
The Lord’s ministry of the Holy Spirit involved preaching the gospel to the poor. By the Holy Spirit, Jesus preached the gospel, the good news. He especially told the good news to the needy. The poor do not have possessions in this world. They are in hardship, weakened, and oppressed. The Lord of the Holy Spirit told them the good news of hope. They heard the gospel, believed, were saved, and inherited heaven. Jesus of the Holy Spirit preached the good news to the world that was in despair. Jesus preached the gospel to those who were poor in spirit and did not rely on anything in this world but only on the Lord. Jesus told about the good news of eternity to us who rely on the Lord of the Holy Spirit. We hear the good news and live a blessed life of salvation. We also tell others about the Lord’s good news by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus of the Holy Spirit heals a broken heart. The Lord heals a heart that is harmed by sin. The Lord also heals the heart that is hurt, torn, and ill from living in the world. An ill heart needs to be healed. That is why God heals broken souls. We have to recover from wounds caused by the people and environment around us. Just like how physical wounds recover, we must recover from the wound of the heart. Otherwise, many spiritual negative side effects and pain will follow. We must recover by the Word of the Lord of the Holy Spirit.
The Lord of the Holy Spirit is sent by God to free those who are enslaved by sin (Romans 6:18, 22). We used to be slaves to sin. However, through the forgiveness of sin that came by the cross, we became slaves to righteousness and God. God did not originally make us to be slaves to sin. Men sinned and became slaves to sin. Who will free us from our bondage to sin? The Lord of the Holy Spirit will free us. We cannot on our own be freed from the bondage to sin. Only the Lord of the cross who came by the Holy Spirit can set us free. We must fix our thoughts on the Lord.
The Lord of the Holy Spirit frees us who are enslaved by the power of death. The Scriptures say, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:1-2). Death is the consequence of sin (Romans 5:12). When we overcome sin, we overcome death. The Lord Jesus of the Holy Spirit overcame sin through the cross. The Lord also overcame death through resurrection and gave us eternal life that never decays (2 Timothy 1:10). The one who brought us out from the prison of death is Jesus of the Holy Spirit. The Lord overcame death through the power of the Holy Spirit. We also overcome death through the power of the Holy Spirit and are resurrected (Romans 8:11; 2 Corinthians 5:4-5). We must always remember that Jesus of the Holy Spirit freed us from the prison of death and live with gratitude.
