어떤 권사님이 ‘자녀들이 같이 있었으면 좋겠다. 자녀가 부모와 가까운데 사는 것이 좋다’고 말한다. 사람들은 좋아하고 사랑하는 사람은 항상 함께 있기를 바란다. 대체로 사람들은 사랑하는 자녀가 멀리 떨어져 있는 것보다 가까운 곳에 있기를 바란다. 오늘 읽은 성경은 하나님 아버지께서 예수님과 함께 하셨다고 말한다. 거기에는 분명한 이유가 있다.
하나님 아버지는 아들 예수님을 세상에 보내셨다. 예수님은 보내심을 받아서 세상에 오셨다. 예수님은 스스로 오신 것이 아니다. 예수님은 ‘내가 갈게요. 내가 세상에 가고 싶습니다. 나를 보내 주세요’라고 한 것이 아니다. 예수님은 자기의 뜻과 계획을 가지고 오신 것이 아니다. 하나님이 이사야 선지자에게 말씀한다. “내가 누구를 보내며 누가 우리를 위하여 갈고” 이사야는 대답한다. “내가 여기 있나이다. 나를 보내소서”(사 6:8) 하나님은 이사야 선지자를 보내기를 원하셨다. 그는 하나님의 보냄을 받은 것이다. 모세도 마찬가지다. 모세는 자기의 생각이 아니라, 하나님이 그를 애굽으로 보내셨다. 우리도 마찬가지다. 하나님이 나를 택하시고 부르셔서 구원받게 하셨다. 그리고 주님은 나를 세상에 보내셨다. 우리는 주님의 보내심을 받아서 그리스도인으로 산다. 내가 스스로 ‘세상에 가겠습니다. 저를 보내 주세요’가 아니다.
예수님은 하나님 아버지와 함께 하셨다. 아버지 하나님은 아들을 혼자 두지 않았다. 자녀를 낳고 혼자 두는 부모는 거의 없다. 부모는 자기 자녀를 품에 안고 양육한다. 왜냐하면 자녀는 부모의 사랑하는 귀한 존재이기 때문이다. 예수님은 하나님의 지극히 사랑하는 귀한 아들이다. 그래서 아버지 하나님은 그 아들과 함께 하셨다. 우리는 사랑하는 아들 예수님의 피 값으로 구속하신 하나님의 사랑하는 자녀다. 그래서 아버지 하나님은 우리와 함께 하신다. 내가 어디에 있든지 눈동자 같이 지키신다.
예수님은 하나님 아버지가 항상 함께 하셨다. 예수님은 영원전부터 하나님과 함께 하셨다. 예수님이 태어나시고, 시역하시고, 십자가에 달려 죽으시고, 부활하시고, 승천하실 때에도 함께 하셨다. 예수님은 혼자 사역하지 않으셨다. 예수님이 말씀을 전하시고, 병자를 고치시고, 기적과 표적을 행하실 때에 하나님이 함께 하셨다. 성자 예수님은 성부 하나님과 동역하셨다. 하나님 아버지는 예수님과 함께 하셔서 자기의 뜻을 이루셨다. 예수님은 우리의 사역 가운데 함께 하신다. 나 혼자 사역하는 것이 아니다. 주님은 나와 함께 하신다. 주님은 내가 사역할 수 있는 마음과 사명을 주신다. 주님은 우리에게 주님의 일을 위한 모든 은혜와 능력을 주신다. 우리의 사역은 주님과 함께 하는 사역이다. 주님은 우리와 함께 하셔서 자기의 뜻을 이루신다.
예수님은 항상 아버지 하나님이 기뻐하시는 일을 하셨다. 그래서 하나님은 아들 예수님과 함께 하셨다. 예수님은 자기가 기뻐하는 일을 하지 않으셨다. 예수님은 자기가 좋아하고, 즐거워하고, 원하는 일을 하지 않으셨다. 보통 사람들은 자기가 기뻐하고 원하는 일을 한다. 그것은 결국 자기를 기쁘게 한다. 예수님은 자기를 보내신 하나님 아버지를 기쁘시게 하는 일만 하셨다. 그것이 무엇인가? 그것은 바로 순종이다. 예수님은 하나님 아버지의 말씀을 순종했다. 예수님은 하나님의 말씀대로, 뜻대로만 사셨다. 예수님의 삶에는 자기의 원함과 뜻은 없었다. 예수님은 자기의 기쁨을 위해 살지 않으셨다. 아버지를 기쁘시게 하는 것이 예수님의 삶의 목적이었다.
우리도 마찬가지다. 우리는 예수님을 본받아야 한다. 예수님이 기뻐하시는 일만 해야 한다. 그래서 우리는 주님의 말씀을 순종해야 한다. 우리는 주님의 교훈대로 살아야 한다. 우리는 나의 뜻을 이루고 나의 기쁨을 구하는 일을 자제해야 한다. 하늘에서 세상에 오시는 것이 예수님에게 기쁜 일이 아니다. 십자가에 못 박혀 죽는 일이 예수님께 기쁘고 즐거운일 아니다. 그것은 가장 고통스럽고 괴로운 일이다. 하지만 주님은 하나님 아버지를 기쁘게 하기 위하여 십자가를 지셨다. 예수님은 오직 하나님 아버지를 사랑하고, 아버지를 기쁘게 하고, 아버지의 뜻을 이루기 위해서 사셨다. 그것은 곧 순종으로 나타났다.
우리는 기억해야 한다. 우리가 주님을 기쁘시게 하려면 순종해야 한다. 우리는 우리를 구원하시고 기쁘시게 하기 위하여 십자가에 돌아가신 예수님을 기쁘시게 해야 한다. 예수님이 원하시고 기뻐하시는 일은 순종에 있다. 우리는 모든 일에 주께 순종하여 항상 주님이 기뻐하는 일을 하자. 그래서 우리는 항상 주님이 함께 하는 삶을 살자.
Life with Jesus (John 8:29-30)
A Gwonsanim said ‘I wish my kids lived near me. It’s good for kids to live close to their parents.’ People want those they love to always be around them. Generally, people want their beloved kids to live closer rather than farther away from them. Today’s passage says that God the Father was with Jesus. There is a clear reason behind this.
God the Father sent his Son Jesus into the world. Jesus was sent and therefore came to the world. He did not come on his own. He did not say, ‘I will go. I want to go to the world. Please send me.’ He did not come to the world according to his will and plan. God says to Prophet Isaiah, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”. Isaiah answers, “Here I am. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8) God wanted to send Prophet Isaiah. He was sent by God. Same applies to Moses. It wasn’t according to Moses’ thought, but God sent him to Egypt. Same goes with us. God chose and called us and saved us. Our Lord sent us to the world. We live as Christians because we were sent by the Lord. We didn’t say on our own, ‘I will go to the world. Please send me.’
Jesus was with the Father. God the Father did not leave his Son to be alone. Most parents don’t abandon their children after giving birth to them. They embrace and nurture them because their children are very dear and precious to them. Jesus is a very dear and precious Son of God. Therefore, the Father was with his Son. And we are God’s dear children, saved through the blood of Jesus, the dear Son. Therefore, God the Father is with us. Wherever we are, God watches over us like the apple of His eye.
God the Father was always with Jesus. Jesus was with the Father from eternity. The Father was also with Jesus when he was born, during his ministry, when he was crucified, when he resurrected, and when he ascended to heaven. Jesus did not do his ministry alone. When he preached the Word, healed the sick, and performed miracles, God was with him. Jesus the Son co-ministered with God. God the Father was with Jesus and fulfilled his will. Jesus is with us in our ministry. We don’t do ministry on our own. Our Lord is with us. The Lord gives us a heart and a calling fit for ministry. He gives us all the grace and strength for the work of the Lord. Our ministry is one that is done with the Lord. The Lord is with us and will fulfill his will.
Jesus always did what pleased the Father. Therefore, God was with him. Jesus did not live to please himself. He did not do things that he liked, enjoyed, or wanted. People typically do what pleases them. But Jesus only did what pleases the Father. That is, he lived in obedience. Jesus obeyed the Father’s words. He only lived according to the Father’s words and will. There was no my desire and my will in Jesus’ life. He did not live for his own pleasure. His goal was to please the Father.
We must also follow the example of Jesus. We must do what pleases Jesus. That is, we ought to obey Jesus’ words and live according to his teachings. And we ought to resist doing things to fulfill our own will, in pursuit of our own pleasure. Coming down to the world from heaven was not a joyful thing for Jesus. Nor was dying on the cross. It was the most excruciating and painful thing. However, he bore the cross to please the Father. Jesus loved and pleased only God and lived to fulfill His will. And it was manifested through obedience.
We must remember that to please the Lord, we must obey. We must please Jesus, who died on the cross to save us and give us joy. What pleases Jesus is our obedience. Let us obey the Lord in all things and live to please him, and always live a life with Jesus.
