거짓 선지자 하나냐가 있었다. 그는 이스라엘이 바벨론 포로에서 2년 후에 돌아 온다고 예언했다. 하지만 그것은 거짓말이었다. 그는 자기 마음에서 나오는 생각대로 말했다. 그는 하나님으로부터 말씀을 받은 것이 아니다. 그는 하나님이 보낸 선지자가 아니다. 오늘 본문은 예수님의 말씀을 들은 유대인들의 분쟁을 묘사하고 있다. 과연 예수님의 말씀은 어디서 오는 것인가? 우리는 예수님의 말씀의 성격을 아는 것이 필요하다. 우리는 예수님의 말씀과 역사에 대해서 바르게 알아야 한다. 믿음은 예수 그리스도의 말씀에 근거하기 때문이다(롬 10:17).
예수님이 하신 말씀을 들은 유대인 중에 분쟁이 발생했다(19). 왜 그들은 예수님의 말씀을 듣고 충돌했을까? 예수님의 말씀은 어떤 말씀일까? 우리는 예수님의 말씀을 잘 이해해야 한다. 예수님의 말씀은 하나님 말씀이다. 예수님은 자기 생각을 말하지 않았다. 예수님은 하나님이 주신 말씀을 그대로 전했다. 예수님의 말씀은 성령으로 전한 말씀이다. 성령으로 전한 말씀이 하나님의 말씀이다. 예수님의 말씀은 구원의 말씀이다. 예수님의 말씀을 듣고 믿는 사람은 구원 받는다. 예수님의 말씀은 진리의 말씀이다. 그 말씀은 진실하고 정직하다. 마음의 진실함과 정직함은 예수님 말씀의 능력으로 이루어진다. 우리가 주의 말씀을 행할 때에 정직하고 진실한 마음을 갖게 된다. 예수님의 말씀은 생명의 말씀이다. 예수님은 생명이시다(요 11:25; 요 14:6). 생명이신 예수님 말씀에 생명의 능력이 있다. 우리가 예수님의 생명으로 충만하려면, 주의 말씀을 배우고 순종해야 한다. 예수님의 말씀은 의롭고 거룩하다. 우리는 주의 말씀을 듣고, 배우고, 순종하면서 의롭고 거룩하게 살 수 있다.
예수님은 선한 목자와 양에 관한 교훈을 전했다. 유대인들은 주님의 말씀을 듣고 분쟁했다. 예수님은 세상에 칼을 주려고 오셨다고 말했다(마 10:34-36). 예수님은 한 가정에서 아버지와 아들, 어머니와 딸, 시어머니와 며느리가 분쟁하게 하려고 오셨다고 말씀한다. 그것은 예수님의 말씀을 듣고 믿지 않는 사람과 믿는 사람들 사이에 일어나는 일이다. 주님을 믿는 사람들 중에서는 분쟁이 없다. 그들은 한 마음, 한 뜻으로 화목한다. 하지만 믿지 않는 사람들과 믿는 사람들 사이에는 분쟁이 있다. 서로의 의견이 다른 곳에는 분쟁이 있다.
교회에서 발생하는 분쟁도 마찬 가지다. 모두가 의견이 같으면 분쟁은 없다. 하지만 서로 다른 생각을 갖게 되면, 분쟁은 발생한다. 주의 말씀을 듣고 순종하는 곳에는 분쟁이 없다. 주의 말씀을 순종하지 않는 사람들은 순종하는 사람들과 분쟁한다. 순종의 사람들은 교회의 화평을 위해 힘쓴다. 그들은 주의 성령, 곧 화평의 영과 말씀으로 행하기 때문이다. 주의 말씀을 믿지 않고 순종하지 않는 사람들은 자기의 욕망과 생각을 따른다. 거기에는 화평이 없다. 유대인들 모두가 믿었다면 분쟁은 없다. 믿지 않는 유대인들 때문에 분쟁이 발생했다. 우리는 교회의 화평을 위해서 주의 말씀을 듣고 순종해야 한다.
분쟁하는 양편이 있다(20-21). 한 편만 있으면 분쟁은 없다. 반대하는 편이 있기 때문에 분쟁이 있다. 예수님을 믿지 않고 그 말씀을 거부하는 사람들이 있다(20). 그들은 예수님이 귀신들려 미쳤다고 말한다. 그래서 그들은 예수님의 말씀을 들을 필요가 없다고 주장한다. 그들의 말은 하나님 앞에서 큰 죄악이요 신성모독이다. 그들은 성령을 훼방하고 있다. 그들은 자신들이 마귀 곧 귀신에 속한 사람들이다. 그들의 생각은 완전히 잘 못된 것이다. 그들은 예수님을 알지 못하고 있다. 그들의 의견은 무지에서 비롯된 것이다. 우리는 주 예수 그리스도를 부지런히 배워야 한다. 우리는 주님을 알 수록 주를 잘 믿게 된다. 우리는 열심히 주의 말씀을 배우고 실천해야 한다.
예수님은 성령의 주님이시다. 예수님은 진리의 주님이시다. 예수님은 하나님의 아들 그리스도 주이시다. 예수님은 하나님의 형상이요 영광의 광채시다(히 1:3). 예수님의 말씀은 듣고 믿는 자에게 영원한 생명을 준다. 예수님의 말씀은 모든 사람이 듣고 구원 받아야 말씀이다. 예수님 말씀은 하늘에 속한 교훈이다. 주의 말씀은 영원한 능력의 말씀이다. 예수님은 하나님의 아들 그리스도 구주이다. 예수님은 그 권능으로 맹인의 눈을 뜨게 했다. 예수님은 성령으로 말씀하시고 성령으로 사역하셨다. 예수님은 성령의 권능으로 병자를 고치시고 능력을 행하셨다. 주님은 믿는 자에게 성령을 주신다. 그래서 주님은 우리가 성령으로 거듭나게 하시고, 성령으로 살게 하신다. 우리의 믿음과 삶과 사역은 성령으로 이루어진다. 예수님의 모든 역사는 성령의 역사요 하나님의 역사다. 우리의 모든 행함과 사역도 성령의 역사로 이루어져야 한다. 그것은 곧 성령으로 역사하시는 주의 말씀을 행할 때에 나타난다.
The Work of Jesus (John 10:19-21)
There was a false prophet named Hananiah. He prophesied that Israel will return from Babylonian captivity in 2 years. However, it was a lie. He spoke from his own thoughts. He had not received word from God. He was not sent by God. Today’s passage describes an argument among the Jews who heard Jesus. Where is the word of Jesus from? We must understand the characteristics of the Scripture. We must learn and know the word and history of Jesus correctly. For faith is grounded in the word of Jesus Christ (Romans 10:17).
There was an argument among the Jews who heard what Jesus said (v.19). Why was there a conflict after hearing Jesus? We must understand the word of Jesus correctly. The word of Jesus is the word of God. Jesus did not speak on his own. He spoke only the word God gave him. His word is one spoken by the Holy Spirit. The word preached by the Holy Spirit is the word of God. Jesus’ word is the word of salvation. Everyone who hears his word and believes it is saved. Jesus’ word is the word of truth. His words are truthful and honest. Truthfulness and honesty of heart are achieved through the power of Jesus’ word. When we put his word into practice, then we will have an honest and truthful heart. The word of Jesus is the word of life. Jesus is the life (John 11:25; John 14:6). The words of Jesus, who is the life, have the power of life. To be filled with the life of Jesus, we must learn his words and obey them. His word is righteous and holy. We can live a holy life by listening, learning, and obeying his word.
Jesus preached about the good shepherd and his sheep. The Jews heard him and were divided. Now Jesus said that he came to the earth to bring a sword (Matthew 10:34-36). He said that he has come to turn “a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter against her mother-in-law”. This is the situation that occurs between those who hear and believe Jesus’ word and those who do not believe. There is no division or conflict between believers. They are of one accord and live in peace. However, there is a conflict between the unbelievers and the believers. Conflict exists where there are differing opinions.
Same goes with divisions within the church. When everyone agrees, there is no conflict. But when people start having different thoughts, division arises. There is no conflict when we listen to the word of Jesus and obey it. Those who do not obey him clash with those who obey. The people of obedience make efforts to promote peace in the church. It is because they live by the word of God and the Holy Spirit, the spirit of peace. But those who do not believe nor obey the word of God follow their own desires and thoughts. Such life has no peace. If the Jews had all believed, there would not have been division. Conflict arose because of the unbelieving Jews. For the peace of the church, we must listen to the word of God and obey it.
There are opposing sides to a division (v.20-21). If there is only one side, there is no conflict. Conflict occurs because there is an opposing side. There are people who do not believe in Jesus and reject his word (v.20). They say that Jesus is demon-possessed and raving mad. So they claim that there is no need to hear him. What these people are saying is a huge sin and blasphemy. They are slandering the Holy Spirit. These people themselves are demon-possessed. Their thoughts are absolutely incorrect. They do not understand or know Jesus. Their thoughts come from ignorance. We ought to learn our Lord Jesus Christ diligently. The more we know him, the greater our faith will be. We must strive to learn his word and put it into practice.
Jesus is the Lord of the Holy Spirit. He is the Lord of truth. He is Christ the Lord, the Son of God. He is the image of God and the radiance of God’s glory (Hebrews 1:3). Jesus gives eternal life to those who listen to him and believe. The word of Jesus is one that saves those who listen. His word is the teaching of heaven. It is the word of eternal power. Jesus is the Son of God and Christ the Savior. He opened the eyes of the blind by his power. He preached and did his ministry by the Holy Spirit. He healed the sick and performed miracles by the Holy Spirit. And he gives the Holy Spirit to those who believe. He makes us born again by the Holy Spirit and live by it. Our faith, lives, and ministry are achieved by the Holy Spirit. All the words of Jesus are the word of God and the Holy Spirit. Likewise, all our actions and ministries should be achieved by the Holy Spirit. This is fulfilled when we live by the word of the Lord, which works through the Holy Spirit.
