세례 요한이 태어났다. 그는 성경에 예언되어 있는 사람이다(사 40:3). 그가 태어난 이유가 있다. 세례 요한은 예수님보다 먼저 와서 주의 길을 준비한 사람이다. 그는 죄 사함을 얻게 하는 회개의 세례를 전하였다. 그는 유대인들에게 예수님을 알리고, 그들을 예수님께로 인도했다. 오늘 읽은 성경은 예수님이 태어나신 이유를 설명한다. 예수님이 오셔서 이루어진 일은 무엇인가? 예수님을 보내신 하나님의 뜻은 무엇인가?
하나님은 때가 되어서 약속하신 대로 그의 아들을 보내셨다(4). 때는 하나님이 정하신다. 하나님은 자기가 정한 때에 여자 곧 마리아에게서 예수님이 나게 하셨다. 여자로부터 태어났다는 것은 사람으로 오셨다는 의미다. 그리고 그것은 하나님의 말씀의 성취다(사 7:14). 모든 사람은 하나님이 정하신 때에 태어난다. 500년 전의 사람이 지금 태어나지 않는다. 우리 역시 200년 후에 태어나지 않는다. 각 사람은 하나님이 원하시는 때에 태어난다. 사람은 자기가 원하는 때에 태어나지 않는다. 하나님의 아들 예수님도 하나님이 정하신 때에 세상에 오셨다. 예수님이 태어나신 시대는 율법시대다. 그 때에는 신약이 없었다. 주님이 나신 때는 구약의 율법이 지배하는 시대다. 예수님은 율법 아래서 태어났다(4). 예수님이 오신 이후는 신약시대다. 지금 우리는 주 예수 그리스도의 복음과 은혜 아래서 산다. 지금은 은혜시대, 복음시대라고 한다.
예수님이 여자에게서 나게 하시고 율법 아래서 나게 하신 하나님의 뜻이 있다. 하나님은 자기 아들을 통해서 자기의 뜻을 이루셨다. 하나님의 뜻은 율법 아래 있는 사람들을 속량하시기 위해서다(5). 하나님은 율법 아래서 죄 가운데 있는 사람들을 구원하셨다. 하나님은 그의 아들 예수 그리스도의 십자가의 피로 속죄하셨다. 하나님은 율법 아래 있는 사람들을 죄와 사망에서 해방시키셨다. 하나님은 그의 아들의 피값으로 우리를 사셨다. 그것이 곧 속량이다. 하나님이 자기 아들을 보내지 않았다면 우리는 죄와 사망에서 벗어나지 못한다. 우리는 죄 가운데서 죽는다. 우리는 영원히 죄인으로 산다. 우리는 하나님의 아들 주 예수 그리스도의 피로 죄의 권세와 율법 아래서 벗어난다.
우리를 죄에서 구속하신 하나님은 우리를 자기 아들로 삼으셨다(5). 우리는 주 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 하나님의 자녀되는 권리를 얻는다(요 1:12). 우리는 주를 믿음으로 하나님에게서 나서 하나님의 자녀가 된다(요일 5:1). 우리가 십자가의 주 예수를 믿지 않으면 하나님의 자녀가 될 수 없다. 하나님은 자기 아들 예수 그리스도를 믿는 사람을 자녀로 삼는다. 그래서 하나님은 자녀 된 우리를 사랑하시고 돌보신다. 하나님은 죄인 된 우리가 자기의 자녀가 되는 길을 만들어 놓으셨다. 그것은 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도를 믿는 것이다. 우리는 주 예수를 믿음으로 아들로서의 자격을 가지고 있다.
우리가 하나님의 아들이라는 확실한 증거가 있다. 그것은 우리가 하나님을 아버지라고 부르는 것이다(6; 롬 8:16). 우리는 하나님의 아들의 영을 받았다. 그래서 우리는 하나님을 아버지라고 부른다. 하나님은 주 예수 그리스도를 믿은 우리 마음에 그의 아들의 영인 성령을 보내 주신다(롬 8:15; 갈 3:2, 14). 우리는 아들의 영인 성령이 아니면 하나님의 자녀가 될 수 없다. 성령으로 거듭난 사람이 하나님의 자녀가 된다. 하나님의 자녀 된 사람은 하나님을 아버지라고 부르게 된다. 하나님의 자녀 된 우리는 더 이상 종이 아니다. 우리는 주 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 종이 되지 않는다. 우리는 믿음으로 하나님의 자녀가 된다. 종은 주인의 유산 상속권이 없다. 아들이 아닌 종은 집 주인의 소유이다.
자녀는 부모의 재산을 상속받는 권리가 있다. 우리는 아버지 하나님의 자녀다. 우리는 하나님의 상속자다. 하나님 아버지는 자녀인 우리에게 자기의 것을 주신다. 그래서 하나님의 상속자로서 우리는 하나님 아버지의 것을 유업으로 받는다. 우리는 하나님 아버지의 나라 천국을 유업으로 받는다. 우리는 하나님 아버지께 속한 모든 것을 유업으로 받는다. 우리는 신령한 모든 것, 물질적인 모든 것 곧 아버지 하나님에게 있는 모든 것을 받을 수 있는 권리가 있다. 왜냐하면 우리는 하나님의 자녀이기 때문이다. 우리가 하나님의 자녀가 된 것은 그의 아들 예수 그리스도의 속죄 때문이다. 우리는 기억해야 한다. 우리가 하나님 아버지의 자녀로서 누리는 모든 것과 상속권은 십자가의 그리스도의 피의 공로다. 그리고 그것이 그의 아들 예수 그리스도를 보내신 하나님의 뜻이다. 우리는 그의 아들을 보내 주셔서 자녀 삼으시고 유업을 받게 하신 하나님 아버지께 감사하자.
Why Jesus Came (Galatians 4:4-7)
John the Baptist was born. The Scriptures prophesied about him (Isaiah 40:3). There was a reason John was born. He was born before Jesus and prepared the way for the Lord. He preached the baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sin. He preached Jesus to the Jews and led them to him. Today’s passage explains why Jesus came to the world. What was fulfilled after Jesus came? What is God’s will for sending Jesus?
When it was time, God sent his Son to the world according to his promise (v.4). God determines the time. At the appointed time, God caused Jesus to be born from a woman, that is, Mary. Being born from a woman means he came as a human. And it is the fulfillment of the word of God (Isaiah 7:14). Everyone is born at God’s appointed time. Someone who was born 500 years ago is not born today. Likewise, we also are not born 200 years later. Every person is born at the time set by God. People are not born at the time they want to be born. Even Jesus, the Son of God, came to the world at God’s appointed time. Jesus was born in the Age of Law. At the time, the New Testament did not exist. The age that Jesus was born was when the Law of the Old Testament ruled. Jesus was born under the Law (v.4). After Jesus came is the age of the New Testament. Today, we live under the gospel and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Today is referred to as the Age of Grace or the Age of the Gospel.
There is a reason God caused Jesus to be born from a woman, under the law. God fulfilled his will through his Son. God’s will is to redeem the people who are under the law (v.5). God saved the people who are under the law and in sin. God cleansed sin through the blood of his Son Jesus Christ. God freed those who were under the law from sin and death. God bought us through the blood of his Son. This is redemption. If God had not sent his Son, we would not have escaped sin and death. We would have died in our sin. We would have lived as sinners forever. We escape the power of sin and the law through the blood of God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
God, who redeemed us from sin, made us his children (v.5). We receive the right to become the children of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We become God’s children when we are born of Him by faith in the Lord (1 John 5:1). When we do not believe in the Lord Jesus of the Cross, we cannot become God’s children. God makes those who believe in his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, his children. And he loves and cares for those who have become his children. God made the path for us sinners to become his children. It is to believe in his Son Jesus Christ. We have the right of the children when we believe in the Lord Jesus.
There is evidence that we are God’s children. It is that we call God our Father (v.6; Romans 8:16). We received the Spirit of his Son. Therefore, we call God, Father. To the hearts that believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, God gives the Holy Spirit, which is the Spirit of his Son (Romans 8:15; Galatians 3:2, 14). Without the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Son, we cannot become the children of God. Those who are born again by the Holy Spirit become God’s children. Those who become God’s children call him Father. We who have become God’s children are no longer slaves. When we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, we do not become slaves. We become God’s children by faith. Slaves do not have the right of an heir. Slaves, who are not the son, are their master’s possession.
Children have the right to be an heir. We are God our Father’s children. We are his heirs. God the Father gives us what is his. Therefore, as God’s heirs, we inherit all that is the Father’s. We inherit heaven, the kingdom of the Father. We inherit everything that belongs to God the Father. We have the right to receive all spiritual and physical things that belong to the Father. For we are God’s children. We have become God’s children because of the redemption of his Son Jesus Christ. We must remember that what we enjoy as God’s children, including the rights of an heir, are granted through the blood of Christ. And this is the will of God who sent his Son Jesus Christ. Let us give thanks to God for making us his children and making us an heir.
