대학에 가려는 수험생이 합격을 위해서 잠을 적게 자고 공부한다. 그는 최선을 다해서 시험을 준비한다. 왜냐하면 합격은 자신에게 중요하기 때문이다. 그리스도인이 힘써야 할 일들이 있다. 믿음으로 살면서 최선을 다해야 할 일이 있다. 그것은 기도다. 오늘 본문은 우리의 기도생활에 관한 교훈이다.
본문 성경은 모든 기도와 간구를 하라고 말한다. 우리는 매일 기도한다. 우리는 새벽, 아침, 저녁, 식사할 때에 기도한다. 그리고 우리는 어떤 문제를 가지고 기도한다. 우리가 기도와 간구를 할 때는 내용이 있다. 우리는 우리가 원하는 일이 이루어지기를 바란다. 우리는 그러한 소원을 가지고 기도한다. 그래서 오늘 성경은 모든 기도와 간구를 하라고 말한다. 이 말의 뜻은 이것이다. 우리가 만나는 모든 일에 기도와 간구를 하라는 것이다. 우리는 무슨 일이든지 기도해야 한다. 우리는 크고 작은 일, 오늘과 내일의 일, 현재와 미래, 마음과 생각, 공부, 직장생활, 운전, 건강, 자녀, 생활, 믿음생활, 순종, 예배, 성경공부와 읽기, 섬김과 봉사, 믿음의 성장, 교회, 가정을 위해서 기도해야 한다. 여호사밧 왕은 전쟁의 문제를 놓고 기도했다. 그는 싸움 없이 승리했다. 하나님이 기도를 들으시고 응답하셨기 때문이다. 예수님은 모든 일에 항상 기도하셨다. 우리는 모든 일에 기도해야 한다. 우리는 평범한 일, 중요한 일, 위기의 순간에 기도와 간구를 해야 한다. 우리는 주님의 도움과 구원을 간구해야 한다. 주님은 들으시고, 응답하시고, 구원하신다.
또한 우리는 모든 상황에서 기도해야 한다. 우리가 만나는 모든 상황에서 먼저 기도해야 한다. 우리는 먼저 주님께 알리고 도움을 구해야 한다. 우리는 주님 앞에 엎드려야 한다. 우리는 주님의 도움, 구원, 뜻, 인도를 구해야 한다. 우리는 어떤 상황에 눌리거나 매이지 말아야 한다. 그 상황을 만드시고 다스리시는 하나님께 기도해야 한다. 다윗은 모든 상황에서 기도했다. 그래서 그는 응답받고 승리했다. 에스더와 유대인들은 3일 금식기도를 했다. 그래서 하나님은 유대인들을 대적에게서 구원해 주셨다. 예수님은 십자가의 죽음 앞에서 간절히 세 번을 기도했다. 우리는 금식하며, 작정하고, 철야하며 기도하며 간구할 수 있다. 우리는 주를 의지하여 기도하면서 문제를 해결해야 한다. 우리는 어떤 인간적이고 세상적인 수단으로 해결해서는 안된다. 우리는 주님의 방법, 성경의 방법, 믿음의 방법으로 해결해야 한다. 그래서 우리는 하나님께 영광을 돌려야 한다.
우리는 성령 안에서 기도해야 한다. 우리는 자기의 욕망과 뜻으로 기도해서는 안된다. 우리는 성령의 인도를 따라서 기도해야 한다. 우리는 주님의 뜻을 구하면서 기도해야 한다. 우리는 주의 말씀을 가지고 기도해야 한다. 우리는 성령이 주는 마음으로 기도해야 한다. 우리는 성령의 역사를 따라서 기도해야 한다. 그것은 주님의 말씀과 뜻을 따라서 기도하는 것이다. 또한 그것은 성령이 우리 마음에 역사하는대로 기도하는 것이다. 우리는 성령이 주는 생각으로 기도해야 한다. 우리는 성령이 기도하는 마음을 줄 때에 기도해야 한다. 성령은 기도와 간구하는 마음을 우리에게 주신다. 우리는 그 때에 바로 기도해야 한다.
우리는 깨어서 기도해야 한다. 우리는 정신을 차리고 온 마음으로 기도해야 한다(벧전 4:7). 예수님은 시험에 들지 않기 위해서 깨어서 기도하라고 말씀하셨다(마 26:41). 우리가 깨어서 기도하지 않으면 시험에 빠질 수 있다. 우리는 넘어지거나 시험에 빠지지 않기 위해서 기도해야 한다. 우리가 믿음으로, 말씀으로 살기 위해서 기도해야 한다. 기도는 믿음의 삶에 무기다. 우리는 기도하면서 대적을 이기고 승리할 수 있다. 우리는 온전하고 견고한 승리의 삶을 위해서 깨어서 기도해야 한다.
우리는 항상 힘써서 기도해야 한다. 기도는 믿음의 일이요 영적인 일이다. 기도는 영적 노동이다. 영적인 노동인 기도를 힘써서 해야 한다. 우리는 온 마음으로 다하고, 온 힘을 다하고, 최선을 다해서 기도해야 한다. 기도는 선택이 아니다. 기도는 믿음의 삶에 필수다. 기도 없는 믿음은 존재할 수없다. 우리는 기도하기를 힘써야 한다.
우리는 자신을 위해서 기도해야 한다. 동시에 다른 성도, 곧 형제를 위해서 기도해야 한다. 우리는 사랑으로 기도해야 한다. 믿음의 한 가족의 멤버로서 형제를 위해서 기도해야 한다. 우리는 형제의 믿음과 문제를 위해서 기도해야 한다. 우리는 사랑 안에서 기도의 교제를 해야 한다. 그래서 우리는 주님의 몸의 지체로서 함께 성장해야 한다. 우리는 한 마음과 한 뜻으로 하나 됨과 화평을 위해서 기도해야 한다. 믿음의 삶은 곧 기도의 삶이다.
Devote Yourself to Prayer (Ephesians 6:18)
A student who plans to go to college sets his goal on passing the entrance exam and stays up late to study. He studies hard and gives it his all because passing is crucial to him. There are things that Christians should devote to as they live by faith. It is to pray. Today’s passage is a teaching about prayer life.
Today’s passage tells us to pray with all kinds of prayers and requests. We pray everyday. We may pray at dawn, in the morning, in the evening, and at meals. And we pray with requests and about problems in life. When we pray and make requests, we want our hopes and desires to be fulfilled. So today’s Scripture tells us to pray with all kinds of prayers and requests. This means that we should pray in all situations we may face. We must pray in all circumstance, whether our prayer is about something small or big, today or tomorrow, current or future, our mind and thoughts, work, driving, health, children, faith life, obedience, worship, Bible study and reading, service and volunteer, growth of faith, church, or family. King Jehoshaphat prayed for deliverance for the people of Judah, who were facing invasion from the enemy. And he achieved victory without fighting because God heard and answered his prayer. Jesus always prayed in all situations. We must also pray with all things, whether they be important, not as important, or in crisis. We must earnestly ask for the Lord’s help and salvation. The Lord hears, answers, and saves.
Moreover, we must pray in all circumstances. In all circumstances, the first thing we must do is to pray. We must first seek the Lord and his help. We must kneel down before him. We must seek his help, deliverance, will, and guidance. We should not remain overwhelmed by or bound to our situations. We should pray to God, who orchestrates all situations. David prayed in all situations. He received answers to his prayers and achieved victories. Queen Esther and the Jews fasted for 3 days. And God delivered the Jews from their enemies. Jesus prayed three times before he was arrested and sentenced to death on the cross. We may fast, stay up all night to pray, or pray with purpose. We must rely on the Lord through prayer and see his deliverance. We should not approach our problems with worldly means. We should approach them with the Lord’s way, the way of the Bible, and the way of faith. As a result, we should glorify God.
We must pray in the Holy Spirit. We must not pray with selfish desires. We must pray following the lead of the Holy Spirit. We must seek the will of the Lord. We must pray with the Word of God. We must pray with the mind given by the Holy Spirit. We must pray according to the workings of the Holy Spirit. This is the prayer that is done according to the Lord’s word and will. This is the prayer given according to the work of the Holy Spirit. We must pray with the thoughts given by the Holy Spirit. We must pray whenever the Holy Spirit gives us a mind of prayer. The Holy Spirit gives us a mind of prayer and requests. Then, we must pray right away.
We must be awake in prayer. We must be alert and sober minded, so we may pray (1 Peter 4:7). Jesus tells us to watch and pray so we will not fall into temptation (Matthew 26:41). If we don’t watch and pray, we may fall into temptation. We must pray so we do not fall into temptation. We must pray so we live by faith and the Word. Prayer is the weapon of the life of faith. With prayer, we can triumph over our adversaries. We must watch and pray for a life that is complete, stable and victorious.
We must always devote ourselves to prayer. Prayer is a work of faith and a spiritual work. Prayer is a spiritual labor. We must do our spiritual labor, praying, with all our strength. We must pray with all our heart, strength and our best. Prayer is not a choice. Prayer is a necessity in the life of faith. A faith without prayer cannot exist. We must devote ourselves to prayer.
We must pray for ourselves. At the same time, we must pray for our brothers and sisters. We must pray in love. As members of the same family in faith, we must pray for our brothers and sisters. We must pray for the faith and problems of our brothers and sisters. We must have a fellowship of prayer in love. We must grow together as members of the body of Christ. In one mind and will, we must pray for unity and peace. The life of faith is the life of prayer.
