어떤 가정에 자녀가 있었다. 그는 아버지의 말을 순종했다. 그는 아버지의 뜻을 잘 따랐다. 아버지는 그 자녀를 보고 기뻤다. 아버지는 그 자녀가 요구하는 것은 다 들어 주었다. 이것은 부모와 자녀의 모범적인 관계이며 소통의 원할을 보여 준다. 오늘 본문은 하나님 아버지와 아들 예수님 사이의 소통을 보여 준다. 그것은 우리의 모범이며 믿음의 교훈을 준다.
사람들은 예수님의 말씀대로 무덤의 돌을 옮겼다. 그 때에 예수님은 눈을 들어 위를 보셨다(41). 이것은 예수님께서 기도하는 모습이다. 예수님은 주로 눈을 뜨고 기도하셨다. 우리는 눈을 감고 기도한다. 그 이유는 마음과 정신을 집중하기 위해서다. 눈을 뜨고 기도하는 것이 잘못 된 것이 아니다. 우리는 눈을 감고 혹은 뜨고 기도할 수 있다. 우리는 고개를 숙이고 기도한다. 주님은 머리를 위로 향하여 기도한다. 예수님은 위를 보시면서 기도하셨다. 주님은 하늘에 계신 하나님 아버지를 향해서 기도하셨다. 또한 예수님은 겟세마네 동산에서 엎드려 기도하셨다. 기도의 자세는 큰 문제가 아니다. 우리는 앉아서, 서서, 손을 들고, 두손을 모으고 기도할 수 있다. 중요한 것은 마음의 자세다. 우리는 믿음의 마음으로, 전심으로, 성령으로 기도해야 한다.
예수님은 하나님 아버지께 말씀한다. “아버지여 내 말을 들으신 것을 감사하나이다. 항상 내 말을 들으시는 줄을 내가 알았나이다”(41-42). 아버지는 아들의 말을 들으셨다. 하나님 아버지는 아들 예수님의 말을 항상 들으셨다. 이것은 항상 응답해 주셨다는 의미다. 우리가 다른 사람에게 간절한 요청을 한다. 그 사람은 내 말을 듣고 받아 준다. 내 요청을 들어 준다는 말은 나를 받아 준다는 의미다. 그래서 나의 원함과 문제가 해결된다는 의미다.
하나님 아버지는 아들 예수님의 말과 요청을 다 들으셨다. 그것은 아들의 삶과 말을 기쁨으로 받으셨는 의미다. 하나님은 예수님의 기도에 응답하셨다. 하나님 아버지는 예수님의 기도를 항상 응답하셨다. 이에 대하여 예수님은 하나님 아버지께 감사했다. 우리는 기억해야 한다. 하나님 아버지께서 아들 예수님의 기도에 항상 응답하시는 이유가 있다. 그 점을 우리는 생각해야 한다. 그것은 예수님의 순종이다. 예수님은 아버지 하나님의 말씀을 순종하셨다. 예수님은 하나님의 뜻대로 사셨다. 주님은 항상 하나님을 기쁘게 하셨다. 예수님은 아버지를 영화롭게 하셨다. 그래서 아버지는 아들의 말을 항상 들으신 것이다. 누군가가 내 말을 항상 들어주면, 나 역시 그 사람의 말을 들어 준다. 우리는 기억해야 한다. 우리는 응답받기 위해서 주님의 말씀과 뜻을 순종해야 한다. 우리는 주님을 기쁘시게 하고 영화롭게 해야 한다. 그러면 주님은 우리의 기도를 들으시고 응답해 주신다. 우리는 먼저 자신을 살피고 기도해야 한다. 우리는 주님께 순종해야 한다. 그러면 주님은 우리를 기쁘게 받아 주신다. 주님의 원함이 내 삶에서 이루어져야 한다. 그리고 우리는 기도해야 한다. 주님은 기쁨으로 응답하신다. 기도 응답의 원리가 여기 있다. 우리는 누군가가 내 말을 들어 주지 않으면, 우리 역시 그 사람의 말을 들어 주지 않게 된다.
예수님은 제자들의 믿음을 위해서 일하신다(42). 주 예수님은 믿음의 주요 온전하게 하시는 분이다(히 12:1). 예수님은 믿음의 초석이다. 주님은 믿음의 시작과 끝이다. 십자가와 부활의 예수님이 없다면 우리의 믿음도 없다. 즉 우리가 믿고 구원을 받을 대상이 없는 것이다. 우리의 믿음의 성장은 주님의 말씀에 있다. 믿음의 열매 역시 주의 말씀을 순종할 때 나타난다. 주님의 말씀이 없는 믿음은 없다. 주님의 말씀을 떠난 믿음의 성장과 열매도 없다. 예수님은 지금도 우리의 믿음과 믿음의 성장을 위해서 일하신다. 그래서 예수님은 큰 소리로 말씀한다. “나사로야 나오라”(43). 예수님의 말씀은 생명과 구원의 말씀이다. 주의 말씀은 죽은 자를 살리는 능력이 있다. 그래서 우리는 주님의 말씀을 굳게 믿어야 한다. 예수님이 무덤에 있는 죽은 나사로를 부르자, 나사로가 베로 동인채로 걸어서 나온다(44). 이것이 주님과 주의 말씀의 능력이다. 우리가 주님의 말씀을 믿는 것은 중요하다. 그것이 주님의 원함이기 때문이다. 그것은 믿은대로 되는 역사가 있기 때문이다.
많은 유대인들이 죽은 나사로가 살아난 것을 보고 믿었다(45). 우리 역시 믿는다. 이렇게 예수님은 우리가 믿게 하려고 죽은 나사로를 살렸다. 예수님은 죽은 자를 살리는 권능이 있다는 것을 보여 준다. 예수님은 죽음의 권세를 이기신다는 것을 보여 준다. 죽은 나사로를 살리신 예수님이 참 메시야이며 구주라는 것을 보여 준다. 우리는 죽은 자를 살리시는 주님을 믿고 순종해야 한다. 그러면 우리는 구원의 은총을 얻고 주의 영광을 보게 될 것이다.
Relationship Between Father and Son (John 11:41-45)
There was a child in the family. The child was obedient to the father. The father was very pleased with the child and granted all their requests. This demonstrates a good relationship between a parent and a child. Today’s passage shows the relationship between God the Father and Jesus the Son. This gives us an example to follow and a lesson of faith.
In obedience to Jesus, people moved the stone from Lazarus’ tomb. At that time, Jesus looked up to heaven (v41). This is Jesus praying. Jesus usually prayed with his eyes open. We usually pray with our eyes closed. This is so that we concentrate with our mind and heart. It is not wrong to pray with our eyes open. We can pray with our eyes closed or open. We usually pray with our heads bowed down. Jesus prayed with his head raised to the sky. The Lord prayed facing God the Father who is in heaven. Jesus also prayed kneeled down in Gethsemane. Prayer pose is not of huge importance. We could pray sitting, standing, with our arms lifted, or with our hands together. What is really important is our mindset. We must pray with faith, sincerity and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus told God the Father, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me” (v41-42). God the Father always heard the Son Jesus. This means that God always granted Jesus’ requests. When we request something from someone and they grant us our request, it means they accept us. This also means that our problems are resolved as a result.
God the Father heard every word and request of Jesus the Son. This means God accepted the life and words of His Son with joy. God answered Jesus’ prayers. Jesus was very thankful to God for that. We must remember the reason that God the Father always answered Jesus’ prayers. The reason is that Jesus always obeyed God. Jesus lived according to the will of God. Lord Jesus always pleased God. Jesus glorified God. Thus, God the Father always answered the Son’s prayers. When someone always grants our requests, we also pay them back. We must remember that to get our prayers answered, we must obey the word and will of the Lord. We must please and glorify the Lord. Then, the Lord will hear our prayer and answer us. We must first reflect on ourselves and pray. We must obey the Lord. Then, the Lord will accept us joyfully. The Lord’s will must be accomplished in our lives first. Then, the Lord will answer our prayers joyfully. This is the principle of prayer. When we don’t listen to someone, they won’t listen to us either.
Jesus works for the faith of his disciples (v42). Jesus is the author of faith and the one who makes it perfect (Hebrews 12:1). Jesus is the cornerstone of faith. The Lord is the beginning and the end of faith. Without Jesus of the cross and the resurrection, there is no faith. Namely, there is no one to believe and be saved. The growth of our faith is based on the Word of the Lord. The fruit of faith is revealed when we obey the Lord. There is no faith without the Word of the Lord. There is no growth or fruit of faith apart from the Lord’s Word. Jesus works even today for the growth of our fatih. So Jesus says in a loud voice, “Come out Lazarus” (v43). The words of Jesus are the words of life and salvation. The Word of the Lord has the power to save the dead. Thus we must believe in the Word of the Lord. When Jesus called Lazarus who was lying in the tomb, Lazarus came out wrapped with strips of linen (v44). This is the power of the Lord and his Word. It is important for us to believe in the Lord’s Word. That is the will of the Lord. The Word of the Lord works according to our faith.
Many Jews saw Lazarus being raised from the dead and believed (v45). We also believe. Jesus saved Lazaurs so we can believe. Jesus shows that he has the power to save the dead. Jesus shows that he is able to overcome the power of death. The Lord who raised Lazarus from death shows us that he is the true Messiah and Savior. We must believe in the Lord who saves the dead. Then, we will also receive the grace of salvation and see the glory of the Lord.
