class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Way to Become One<\/strong> (Ephesians 4:1-3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In some families, the husband and wife quarrel every day. They are in conflict with each other and are constantly in discord. There is no day of peace. So the kids have hard times adapting to such an environment. Some kids run away from home. Some families are in discord and others live in harmony. When there is conflict of opinions and minds aren\u2019t in agreement, that family lacks peace. On the other hand, there is a family whose minds are in unity. Then the family is harmonious. Today\u2019s Scripture talks about the way for the church to become one and be in harmony.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ephesians is Apostle Paul\u2019s letter. Paul is currently in prison. There are different reasons for which people go to prison. Some people are imprisoned for robbery, some for theft, some for murder, and others for fraud. Now Paul was imprisoned for preaching the gospel. And even in prison, he fulfilled his calling. Although he cannot physically go to the church in Ephesus, he taught the word of God to the Ephesian believers through a letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paul says, \u201c&#8230;live a life worthy of the calling you have received.\u201d <em>You<\/em> are believers in the church of Ephesus. <em>You <\/em>also refers to us today. God called us through the gospel. When was it that he called us? It was when we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). Before we believed in Jesus, we were dead in sins and transgressions (Ephesians 2:1). We, who are sinners, were destined to die eternally. We were destined to be punished and be thrown into hell. But God called us and enabled us, who were dead in our sins and transgressions, to believe in Jesus Christ. Our Lord washed away our sins through the cross of his Son. Moreover, he enabled us to receive righteousness. And he gave us eternal life. He made us his children and let us inherit the kingdom of heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, we must live in humility and gentleness before the Lord. Humility and gentleness are the mind of the Lord. We must be humble like Jesus as people who received his calling. Jesus, who is the highest, lowered himself to the least position. God the Son came to the world as a man and lowered himself to death. We ought to have the mind of Christ and lower ourselves to the lowest place. Then the church will become of one accord. Humility is the heart that the Holy Spirit gives. When we live by the Spirit, we become humble. Humility is love. When all the members of the church have the mind of love that the Spirit gives, the church will become of one mind. But arrogance puts an obstacle to becoming of one accord. In order to be of one accord, we must be humble. The church is a community of people who are gentle and humble. Paul humbles himself by saying he considers himself less than the least of all the Lord\u2019s people (Ephesians 3:8). Likewise, we must consider ourselves the least in the church. When we become conceited and consider ourselves great, it breaks the unity of the church. Jesus gives wisdom and grace to the people of humility. The Bible says, \u201cLive in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position\u201d (Romans 12:16). We ought to be humble and associate with each other in peace, just as Jesus associated with the tax collectors and sinners.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gentleness is the state of obedience and acceptance of the Lord\u2019s Word. Gentleness forgives others\u2019 faults and accepts them. \u201cWelcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.\u201d (Romans 15:7). The Lord accepted us sinners with love. We must also accept one another with love and gentleness. Then, the church can become one. We must be patient with one another as the Lord is patient with us. We must be patient even if we are displeased, angry or have feelings against another. We must forgive one another. That is where unity lies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The church is a community of one body. The church is a community of one Spirit. The church is a community of one mind. The church is a community that serves one Father, one Lord. The church is a community of one destiny. We are all united as one body. One person in the church has influence over everyone. Moreover, the church is a community of one faith (Ephesians 4:4-6). The church is a community of peace. It is the community of the Lord of peace. Thus, every member has to be at peace. The church is a community that forms the Lord\u2019s one body through the Spirit of peace. Breaking the peace harms the Holy Spirit and the Lord. When the church is at peace, it becomes one. The Scripture says, \u201clet the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body.\u201d (Colossians 3:15). Dissension goes against God\u2019s calling. We must never forget that we are one in the Lord.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We must strive to be at peace with one another. We must avoid all things that break the peace of the church. We must love one another as ourselves. Thus, we must please the Lord who gave us peace and made us become one body. A church and believers without peace and in conflict grieve the Lord. On the other hand, when the church is at peace, we receive compliments, gain trust, and can evangelize effectively.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you tie flowers together, they become one. There is a string of peace. If we tie all believers together with the string of peace, the church becomes one. The string of peace is the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives each believer a mind of peace. Thus, all believers are at peace and become one. For a church to become one, it needs peace from the Holy Spirit. Members must strive to live with a peaceful mind. We must strive to be at peace with other members. Jesus died on the cross so that we can have peace. The Lord bought peace with his life. We must remember that we must imitate our Lord and dedicate our lives for the peace of the church. In such a way, we must please and glorify the Lord who is the owner of the church.
