\ub41c\ub2e4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>God\u2019s Comfort<\/strong> (1 Thessalonians 2:16-17)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When things work out well and prosper, people feel reassured, joyful, and peaceful. However, when things don\u2019t work out well and they run into troubles, people feel anguished and depressed. They need comfort. When we need comfort, who will comfort us? Today\u2019s passage tells us who our comforter is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Savior is Jesus Christ. Jesus saved us through the cross and resurrection. Therefore, there is no salvation without the cross. God sent Christ Jesus into the world. And God\u2019s love was displayed through Jesus, who died on the cross. God\u2019s salvation, eternal life, grace, peace, love, goodness, righteousness, and holiness come from God the Father and the Son. Today\u2019s passage tells us that the Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father comfort us.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now Lazarus died of an illness. His sisters Mary and Martha were very sad and anguished. So many Jews came to comfort them. These Jews shared the sorrow of Lazarus\u2019 family. People\u2019s comfort takes the form of understanding, sympathizing, showing pity, and encouraging. But the Lord\u2019s comfort is different. The biggest comfort for Mary and Martha weren\u2019t that of people. Mary was grieved saying, \u2018If Jesus was here, Lazarus would not have died.\u2019 The genuine comfort was for Lazarus to not have died. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. And it put an end to the sadness and tears. This is true comfort.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Comfort from people may be superficial and not very effective, because people cannot solve problems fundamentally. God\u2019s comfort comes with complete, fundamental resolution of our problems. So his comfort rests in our hearts. The Lord\u2019s comfort heals and restores our hearts. His comfort gives huge encouragement and strength, peace, joy, and courage. The Bible says, \u201cComfort, comfort my people, says your God\u201d (Isaiah 40:1). God wants us to receive comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The consequences of sin is eternal death. So we were all subject to eternal sorrow. However, God sent his only Son Jesus Christ for us. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Our Lord saved us, who died from sin, eternally. He turned eternal sorrow to eternal joy and comfort. The Bible says, \u201c&#8230;and those the Lord has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away\u201d (Isaiah 35:10). The Lord\u2019s salvation turned sorrow and sighing into eternal joy and gladness. The Lord comforts. In the town of Nain, a widow\u2019s only son died. Many people came to the funeral and mourned. Jesus told the widow, \u201cDo not cry,\u201d and raised his son from the dead. Jesus\u2019 comfort removes all sorrow and tears. The Lord Jesus and God the Father who love us give eternal comfort and good hope by grace. God and the Lord Jesus give us eternal life and hope. The Lord gave us true, heavenly hope that does not perish. Therefore, we live joyfully with hope in Jesus, who will come again.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God the Father and the Son Jesus comfort our hearts. We may be hurt, torn, anxious, depressed, grieved, fearful, discouraged, or despaired. Then we need comfort. Our Lord\u2019s comfort strengthens and emboldens us, and gives us joy and peace. When we need comfort, we ought to be comforted, and receive healing and restore spiritual health. The Bible says, \u201cYou have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy\u201d (Psalms 30:11). Jesus turns mourning into dancing and anguish into joy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hannah was not able to conceive. So her rival Peninnah tormented her. Hannah prayed to God with a distressed and bitter heart. God answered her prayer. She gave birth to Samuel. So she praised God with great joy and gladness. God comforts his children who are distressed and sorrowful. \u201cThen young women will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow\u201d (Jeremiah 31:13). When we are worried and in sorrow, God gives us joy and comforts us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, Jesus makes firm our good deeds (17). Jesus\u2019 good ministry is recorded in the Scriptures and spread throughout the world. It became the light of the world. Jesus remembers our good deeds. And he makes them certain and firm. Whenever Prophet Elisha visited Shunam, a Shunammite woman invited him to her house every time. So Elisha remembered her hospitality. Now the woman did not have a child. So Elisha blessed her, saying that she will have a child around this time next year. And the woman gave birth to a son after a year. Jesus does not forget but rewards all our good deeds. He does not forget our service for the church and believers. God especially remembers those who serve weak and small churches. And he will make their good deeds shine brightly like the sunlight.
