The Bible says, \u201cLord, I know that people\u2019s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps\u201d (Jeremiah 10:23). Moses\u2019 life was not his. He did not know his way. He did not know that he would be raised as the son of Pharaoh&#8217;s daughter, kill an Egyptian, become the son-in-law of the Midian priest Jethro, and lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Only God knew the way of Moses. Today\u2019s passage shows us that a person\u2019s way is not their own through David\u2019s life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is God\u2019s response to David when he told the prophet Nathan about his plan to build the temple of God. In verse 8, God says, \u201cNow then, tell my servant David.\u201d The relationship between God and David is a master-servant relationship. God made David his servant. God, who created all things, who is the king of kings, and who is the Lord of lords, is the Lord of David. As long as he belongs to God, David ought to obey God, fulfill his will, and glorify him. David\u2019s destiny is determined by God who is the Lord. Likewise, our Lord is Jesus Christ of the cross and resurrection. Therefore, we call him \u201cLord\u201d. We belong to Jesus our Lord and must submit to him. We must please, serve, and glorify him. We must fulfill the will of Jesus, who is our Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God says to David, \u201cI took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.\u201d David worked in the pasture. He was a shepherd who fed and tended his sheep. He took good care of his sheep and protected them from the attack of lions or bears. If God did not call David, he may have lived the rest of his life as a shepherd. However, God called him and appointed him as the ruler and king of God\u2019s people Israel. God who decides David\u2019s destiny entrusted to him his people, the Israelites. He made him the shepherd of the Israelites, his people and sheep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>David is a prefigure of Christ, the Son of God who came after him. He is someone who represents the good shepherd Jesus who gave up his life for his sheep. Moreover, Jesus is the king of kings who sits on David\u2019s throne and reigns eternally. God showed the Messiah who was to come through David\u2019s life. We are saved by believing in Jesus Christ. And as those who are saved, we become God\u2019s children. We will judge with Jesus as the children of God, the king of kings (Revelations 20:4-6). God called us who were under the power of sin and death, redeemed us through the blood of his Son Jesus, and appointed us as king who judge with him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Verse 9 says God was with David wherever he went. God was with him when he was a shepherd tending his sheep, fighting against Goliath, fleeing King Saul, served as king, went to war, and in trials. Likewise, Jesus is always with us, his dear children. Jesus is with us wherever we are, whether we are asleep, awake, or working. He always protects our mind, thoughts and life, helps us, saves and guides us. When we are tired, burdened, and having a tough time, our Lord is with us.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God destroyed all of David\u2019s enemies. David had many adversaries (Psalms 3:1). However, God enabled him to overcome all of them. He always gained victory (2 Samuel 8:6, 14). David\u2019s life was in God\u2019s hand. So his life was secure, blessed, and prosperous. Our Lord enables us to overcome all our opponents. Our Lord Jesus Christ overcame our adversaries, sin and death, through the cross and resurrection. And he empowers us to overcome sin, death, evil power, world, difficulties, and persecutions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God made David famous, like the famous people of the world. There are famous heroes in the world. There are Alexander the Great, Napoleon, and Genghis Khan. God made David like one of the world\u2019s heroes. David is an Israelite king. He is known among Jewish, Christianity, and Catholics. As an Israelite king, in the family line of Jesus, and as a man of faith, he became a great man before God. Today, as Christians who were saved, as the children of God, we stand as citizens of the kingdom of God. We obtained the honor of being called by the name of Jesus Christ and God. Therefore, we obtained a name that is greater and above that of every other person in this world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peter was originally a fisherman. However, the Lord appointed him as Christ\u2019s apostle. Paul was originally a persecutor and destroyer of the Lord and the church. However, Jesus made him his apostle. God made us sinners, who were destined to die eternally, his dear children. We ought to remember: we don\u2019t determine the way of our lives. Jesus, who died for us and rose again, reigns over our ways. Therefore, we must entrust our ways to the Lord. We ought to obey the Lord who knows all our ways. By doing so, we should please and glorify our Lord who is with us and helps us, watches over us, and guides us.
