8:1-2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a saying, \u201cGive me freedom or give me death.\u201d Patrick Henry said this as he eagerly longed for the United States\u2019 independence from Britain. At the time, the US was a British colony. It was under British rule. People and nations want to be freed from oppression, pressure, and bondage. Korea desired freedom during the Japanese colonial era. 8.15 was the country\u2019s earnest desire. Today\u2019s passage is about freedom from sin and death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Verse 1 says, \u201cTherefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.\u201d When we are in Christ Jesus, there is no condemnation. We should pay attention to \u201cChrist Jesus\u201d. Who is Jesus? He is Christ. The motto of the early church\u2019s gospel and evangelism was \u201cJesus, who resurrected, is Christ.\u201d There is no Christ other than Jesus of the cross and resurrection. Only Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus who died for our sins and was raised to life is Christ. Christ can cleanse people of their sins. It is the Messiah who delivers us from sin and death. And Jesus is the Messiah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christ Jesus is the Savior of all people. The meaning of Christ is \u201cthe anointed\u201d. Anointing meant receiving ordination and the Holy Spirit. As Christ, Jesus has three roles. He is the King of kings, the king of the Jews, and the king of all believers who have become citizens of God\u2019s kingdom. So we must submit to the Lord who is our King. We must serve, worship, and praise the Lord as king. As Christ, Jesus is a prophet. Prophets preached the word of God to people. Likewise, Jesus preached the gospel of God\u2019s kingdom to his people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the Messiah, Jesus is the high priest. The Bible says, \u201c&#8230;fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest\u201d (Hebrews 3:1). Jesus is the high priest who saved his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). Jesus is the eternal high priest in the order of Melchizedek (Psalms 110:3; Hebrews 7:17). Jesus sacrificed his blameless body to God through the eternal Spirit (Hebrews 9:14). Jesus is the high priest who washed away the sins through the blood shed on the cross. The blood of Jesus who is the high priest cleanses sins. Blood forgives sins (Leviticus 17:11; Hebrews 9:22). All sins are cleansed through blood. Those who believe in Jesus as Christ receive forgiveness of sins. In the Old Testament, people\u2019s sins are atoned for through the blood of clean animals; in the New Testament, through the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because we have become holy through the forgiveness of sins, which led to righteousness, through the blood of Jesus Christ the High Priest. If there is no sin, there is no condemnation. When we stand before God and Christ who are the judges, we will not be condemned, for we received forgiveness through the blood of Jesus. Those who believe in Jesus Christ escape condemnation. However, those who don\u2019t believe will be condemned since they didn\u2019t receive forgiveness through Jesus\u2019 blood. But for us who have been washed of our sins through the blood of Jesus Christ the High Priest, God will proclaim righteousness and innocence when we stand before him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Verse 2 is an explanation and a concrete application of verse 1. We whose sins were washed away with the blood of Christ dwell in Jesus Christ. In Jesus Christ is the law of the Spirit who gives life. People are under two types of law. One is the law of the Spirit of life and the other is the law of sin and death. Those who received righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ are ruled by the law of the Spirit of life. Those who don\u2019t believe and did not receive forgiveness of sins are ruled by the law of sin and death. Since we are in Christ Jesus through faith, we escape the law of sin and death and live by the law of the Spirit of life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus is life (John 11:25; John 14:6). By believing in Jesus Christ, Jesus\u2019 life is given to us. Jesus is the good shepherd (John 10:11, 15). Jesus the good shepherd gave up his life for his sheep so that his sheep can obtain life (John 10:10). The life of Jesus is granted when we are born again through the Holy Spirit (John 3:5). The Holy Spirit gives life to the spirits that are dead through sin and transgression. And it gives eternal life to those who have received righteousness. The eternal life that the Spirit gives is in Christ Jesus. Those who gain eternal life by being born again through the Holy Spirit are under the law of the Spirit of life. No longer will the law of sin and death rule over them. For the law of the Spirit of life overcomes the law of sin and death. The Lord of righteousness and life overcomes sin and death. Those who have received righteousness and eternal life through faith in Christ are freed from the law of sin and death. We are in Christ Jesus. In Jesus, there is no law of sin and death. There is only the law of the Spirit. Therefore, we were freed from the law of sin and death that destroys our lives. We must not forget the grace of the Father and Christ, by whose love and forgiveness have freed us from the law of sin and death and enabled us to live by the Spirit of life.
