is the phrase, \u201c <em>burn with jealousy<\/em>.\u201d This means jealousy is roused like fire. In Korea, a woman visited her friend\u2019s house. She saw how well off her friend was and felt jealous. One day, she killed her friend and the two children. She burned with envy and killed her friend\u2019s family. In people\u2019s hearts is envy. Envy is a very difficult problem that is hard to resolve in our hearts and lives. However, it must be resolved in the life of faith. The Bible says love does not envy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Envy exists in all people\u2019s minds. It doesn\u2019t just exist in certain people. While it depends on the person, everyone harbors envy to a certain extent. Envy exists in the sinful nature. Cain was jealous of his brother Abel and killed him. Likewise, people have a tendency to be envious in relationships. Even preschoolers envy their friends. There is a saying in Korea, \u2018When the in-law\u2019s parents buy land, I\u2019m green with envy.\u2019 People may feel envious of everyone else other than themselves. The target of envy can be family, siblings, friends, colleagues, and neighbors.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We must overcome envy. The Scripture shows us the way to overcome envy. It is by actively removing envy from our mind. The Scripture says that there is both the sinful nature and the Holy Spirit in the mind of a Christian (Galatians 5:16-26). When we live by the Spirit, we can overcome envy which comes from sinful nature. We feel envious of others because of our sinful nature. The sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit. The Spirit removes envy whereas sinful nature produces envy. When we live by the Spirit and obey God\u2019s Word, we can overcome envy. Envy is an enemy we must fight against in our spiritual battle. King Saul envied David. He was dominated by his sinful nature. Yet, David did not envy King Saul because he lived by the Holy Spirit. We must live by the Holy Spirit. We must obey God\u2019s Word like Jesus did. The Word of the Lord can subdue envy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Love does not envy. Love makes evil thoughts and selfish desires disappear from our minds. Abraham did not envy his nephew, Lot. He gave Lot the opportunity to choose the land first. He chose the land of Canaan after Lot had chosen another land. When we generously let others go first, we would not envy. We envy those who are better, more powerful and successful. We do not envy those who have worse grades, less power, and are poor. Envy occurs when there is competition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An envious mind stems from selfishness. An envious person thinks only about themselves and makes themselves the standard. When we think about others first and seek their good, envy disappears. Envy harms the mental, spiritual and physical health. Envy makes the bones rot (Proverbs 14:30). Envy makes a soul ill. Envy makes us mentally impoverished. Envy brings about spiritual stagnation. Envy not only harms the one who envies, but others who are envied. People commit criminal offenses because of envy. Consequently, they destroy themselves and others. In contrast, love benefits others. Love creates a mutually beneficial relationship.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Envy dwells in the one who compares and judges others. People have a tendency to compare themselves to those around them and envy them. They compare themselves with their siblings, friends, neighbors, and relatives. Even in church, people compare and envy one another. However, we must stop making judgments and comparisons of one another. We have to seek others\u2019 good and rejoice when others are prosperous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We must not develop competitive relationships in order not to envy. We have to resist competitiveness. We have to think more about others and take care of them. We have to do our best to not envy but love. The key to doing this is to learn God\u2019s Word diligently, meditate on it and obey it. Only the one who lives by God\u2019s Word can overcome envy. We have to pray for others. A mind of prayer has love, and envy disappears. We have to bless others. We have to pray for others\u2019 blessings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have to please others in order not to envy them. We have to seek others&#8217; good instead of our own. We have to learn to be content and grateful with what we have. Then, we can overcome envy. We must remember that love does not envy. The way to overcome envy is love. When we love others, we do not envy them. We have to consider others as ourselves and love them. When we love others as Jesus has loved us, we can overcome envy.
