Jesus and Passover<\/strong> (John 2:13)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Korea\u2019s two major holidays are Chuseok and Lunar New Year. There are three major holidays for the Jewish people: Passover, Shavuot, and Sukkot. The church\u2019s three major holidays are Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving. Jesus went to Jerusalem on Passover. According to the Scripture, Jesus always went up to Jerusalem for Passover. Passover is the holiday for the Jews. In general, Jews refer to the Isrealites. Specifically, Jews refer to those belonging to Judah, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The tribe of Judah was the descendants of the fourth son of Jacob and King David\u2019s ancestry. The Scripture says that Jesus was descended from David. When the Passover approached, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Passover is the biggest Jewish holiday. The origin of Passover goes like this. In the Old Testament, Joseph was sold to Egypt and became a prime minister. Joseph invited 70 of his father Jacob\u2019s family to Egypt. God who worked in the life of Joseph also works in our lives. Even today the Lord accomplishes his will through us. The Israelites lived in Egypt for 430 years. When the time God had set came, Pharaoh, king of Egypt, started persecuting the Israelites. The Israelites cried out in pain. God of grace and love heard their cry. God sent Moses who was 80 years old to Egypt to deliver the Israelites. God sent ten plagues to the Egyptians. After the plagues, the Isrealites exited from Egypt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n We must remember that God chooses his timing and works out his plans. Even in our lives, there are times set by God. When the time comes, God accomplishes his will. We must persevere and wait for the Lord\u2019s timing. Then, we will be able to see the glory of God\u2019s salvation in our lives. We also must remember that God of love, mercy and compassion sees our every hardship and pain and understands us who are his children. So we must trust the Lord who loves us and saves us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n God sent his tenth plague on Egypt, the death of the firstborn. This plague killed every firstborn of both men and animals. However, God did not send the plague to his people, the Isrealites. God instructed the Israelites to apply lamb\u2019s blood on the threshold and the doorpost of their houses. When God saw the blood, he passed over those households without killing the firstborn. This is the origin of the Passover. The food Jews eat on Passover are lamb, bitter greens, and unleavened bread. The representative food for Chuseok is songpyeon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus, as a Passover lamb, died on the cross for our sins. We receive forgiveness of sin through Christ\u2019s blood shed on the cross and avoid God\u2019s wrath and punishment. We are made righteous through the blood of Jesus Christ and receive salvation. Jesus\u2019 flesh and blood are eternal food that we eat and drink (John 6:48-58). We eat Jesus\u2019 flesh and drink his blood through faith. Communion celebrates the death of Jesus, the Passover lamb, for our salvation. We were freed from sin and death through the Lord\u2019s blood shed on the cross. This is God\u2019s amazing grace. The Israelites remembered Passover and celebrated it for their lifetime. We must remember the grace and love of God the Father and Jesus Christ who gave us eternal freedom from the authority of sin and death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Scripture says, \u201cTherefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because the law of the Spirit of life has set us free from the law of sin and death\u201d (Romans 8:1). There is no condemnation for us who believe in the Lord and whose sins have been washed away by the blood of Christ. This is because the Spirit of life that is in Lord Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death. <\/p>\n\n\n\n As those who have been freed in Christ, we now have kingship as children of God. The king of grace reigns over us. The Scripture says, \u201cas sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord\u201d (Romans 5:21). We have escaped from the reign of sin and death by the credit of Christ\u2019s blood shed on the cross. We are now under the kingship of grace. The king of grace reigns over our lives and spirit with grace. God makes us live by his grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We reign as kings in life through the Lord of the cross and resurrection. The kingship of life is given to us who are in the Lord. The Scripture says, \u201cFor if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ\u201d (Romans 5:17). We receive abundant gifts of righteousness when we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ through God\u2019s grace. We have escaped from the authority of sin and death and possess the kingship of eternal life by the power of the Lord\u2019s cross and resurrection. We must remember the grace of our Lord of the cross and resurrection who freed us from sin and death and never forget the love of God the Father.
