Philip told Nathanael that he met the Messiah. Nathanael believed what he was told and accepted Jesus as his Savior. Hearing is the path to faith and the cornerstone of learning. People believe what they hear. That is why it is important that we listen well. The Scripture we read is the prophecy of the Messiah to come. Today is the first Sunday of Advent. It\u2019s the time of the year that we remember the coming of Jesus and celebrate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The coming of the Lord Jesus is prophesied. The Old Testament has numerous prophecies of the coming of Jesus Christ. Today\u2019s passage is one of those. God foretells his thoughts and plans. Amos 3:7 says, \u201cSurely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.\u201d God foretold the prophets that he will send Jesus the Messiah. God knows everything. God knows the future of all people as demonstrated in the Old and New Testaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many prophets testified to the coming of Jesus. As promised and foretold by God, Jesus came to the world as our Savior. As it was prophesied, Jesus came, died, and was resurrected, and he will come again. Today\u2019s passage starts with \u201cThe Lord your God\u201d \u2013 the \u201cyour\u201d in this passage refers to the Israelites. In the Old Testament, God was called the God of the Israelites. In the New Testament, God is the God the Father of those who are saved. God promised to his beloved people first that he will send Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s passage says, \u201cfrom among you, from your fellow Israelites.\u201d As a human, in flesh and blood, Jesus came as one of the Irsaelites. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was a brother of his people, the Savior of the Israelites, and a king. Lord Jesus who is the Messiah was born as a descendent of the Isarelites. He did not trace his origin to other places like Korea, Britain, America, or Africa. As the Scripture had prophesied, Jesus came as a Jew and fulfilled his ministry as a Savior. This Jesus is our Lord, King of kings, Lord of lords. We are saved when we believe and call on the name of the Lord Jesus of the crucifixion and the resurrection (Romans 10:13). According to the New Testament, Jesus was the firstborn son. Romans 8:29 says that \u201cHe would be the firstborn among many brothers.\u201d Jesus the Son of the eternal God calls us his brothers. The Scripture says, \u201cBoth the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters\u201d (Hebrews 2:11). Jesus calls us brothers who have been saved and become children of God. As children of God, we become heirs with Jesus. The Scripture says, \u201cNow if we are children, then we are heirs\u2014heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory\u201d (Romans 8:17). With the Lord Jesus, we will receive eternal life and heaven as inheritance. This is the result of the blessing of Christ\u2019s crucifixion and resurrection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s passage says that God \u201cwill raise up for you a prophet like me from among you.\u201d Jesus also came as a prophet. Moses was a prophet. Moses prophesied that God will raise up a prophet like him. This prophet is Jesus. Like Moses, Jesus was a true prophet who gave his people the Word of God. That is why during Jesus\u2019 ministry, the Israelites considered Jesus as the true prophet who was to come into the world (John 6:14; John 7:40). Among many prophets sent by God, Jesus was a true prophet who preached and practiced the kingdom of God as a Savior. Ministers are also considered prophets. Jesus said that whoever practices the Word of the Lord is a true prophet (Matthew 7:24-27). The minister whose preaching and actions align like those of Jesus is a true prophet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We must listen to the Word of Prophet Jesus who is the Savior, the Son of God. The Jews had to obey the Word of God and listen to it. However, they refused to listen and believe. The consequence was sin and death. God sent his son and wants everyone to listen to his son so that they can be saved. If we do not listen to Jesus and do not believe in him, we die in our sins (John 3:16, 36). When we sinners do not listen to the Word of Jesus and do not believe in him, we cannot be saved. In Deuteronomy 18:19, God says,&nbsp; \u201cI myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name.\u201d When we do not listen and believe, there is punishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With humility, we must listen to the Word of our Lord Jesus Christ whom God sent. Whoever listens well to the word of salvation is saved and receives the blessing of eternal life. Thus, we must train ourselves to listen to the Word of God. The one who listens well also believes. We must not reject the Word of God.
