Streams flow down the valley and form a brook. Brooks come together to form a river. The river may overflow and become a flood. The Han River and the Jordan River have a large volume of water. Now there is the river of life. Jesus teaches us this lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus spoke up on the last and greatest day of the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles. The festival is celebrated over 7 days according to the law of Moses. The Jews gather at the temple on the first and eighth day of the festival. Jesus said in the hearing of many people who gathered on the last day: \u201cLet anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink\u201d (v37). <em>Anyone<\/em> implies equity. The word applies to all people. Jesus does not discriminate against people. The teaching applies to all people, whether they be Jews, Gentiles, or anyone in the world. This includes us as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says that whoever is thirsty should come to him. Thirst is a physiological phenomenon. Everyone feels thirsty. When the body is dehydrated or when we perspire a lot, we feel thirsty. The Israelites complained that there was no water to drink at Rephidim (Exodus 17:1-7). They were extremely thirsty. Moses made water come out of the rocks by striking them according to God\u2019s command. And the Israelites were able to satisfy their thirst. Now a spiritual phenomenon is spiritual thirst. We must feel a spiritual thirst. When we feel spiritual thirst, we will seek the Lord. When we feel thirsty, water needs to be provided. When people do not drink water, they may collapse due to dehydration. We ought to be provided with spiritual hydration. Then we will be able to maintain spiritual life and health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thirst is a want and desire. When we feel thirsty, we eagerly seek water. Water provides energy the body needs. Water is essential to our body\u2019s life and health. Similarly, spiritual water is essential to our spiritual life. Therefore, we must feel spiritual thirst. Thirst accompanies earnest desire. As people want to be prosperous, healthy, and blessed, we must have eager hope for the Word of the Lord and holiness. We must seek the Lord with such hope. Jesus says in today\u2019s passage that anyone who is thirsty should come to him. If we have some earnest desire in life, we must go before the Lord because he satisfies thirst. Jesus gives us water that satisfies our thirst. When we drink this water, our thirst in life as well as spiritual thirst become satisfied.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thus, we must approach God with spiritual thirst. We must have desires for truth, worship, prayer, grace, peace, eternal life, holiness, and righteousness. We must long to love the Lord, live by the Lord\u2019s will, to please the Lord, and to obey the Lord\u2019s Word. Jesus satisfies such thirst as these. We become spiritually normal when we have these desires. There is nothing in this world that can satisfy spiritual thirst. Money, possessions, reputation, power, fame, and pleasures cannot satisfy spiritual thirst. Only Jesus can satisfy our thirst. That is why Jesus tells those who are thirsty to come to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus tells us how to satisfy spiritual thirst (v38-39). Spiritual thirst is satisfied by faith. Our thirst is satisfied when we believe in the Lord Jesus, the Son of God. This means that one can satisfy their wants, wishes and desires through faith in the Lord. Jesus is able to fulfill our wishes. Jesus provides spiritual water to those who believe. Jesus said, \u201cWhoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them\u201d (v38). Jesus gives the Holy Spirit to those who believe in the Lord (Acts 19:2; Galatians 3:2,14; Ephesians 1:13). The water we drink from Jesus is the Holy Spirit. The water that Jesus gives us to satisfy our spiritual thirst is the Holy Spirit. When we drink from the water of the Holy Spirit, all of the thirst of our lives will be satisfied. The water of the Holy Spirit flows through our mind like the river. This is not a small volume. The river contains much more water than needed to satisfy one\u2019s thirst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Holy Spirit provides abundance of life. The Holy Spirit makes eternal life which belongs to heaven overflow like a river. The Holy Spirit satisfies our thirst. The Holy Spirit makes us content with what we have. The Holy Spirit makes our heart content in grace, peace, and joy in the Lord. It keeps us from craving the things of this world. It makes us content with the Lord and his Word. God made us so we are satisfied only when we are spiritually content. When the Holy Spirit gives us contentment, our thirst goes away and we become satisfied. Jesus lived by the Holy Spirit and the Word and was spiritually satisfied. Jesus did not even have a place to lay his head, but he was always content. Likewise, we must live by the Holy Spirit and the Word and live with true contentment. Then, we will live with true life, joy, grace, peace, wealth, and health. Only then can we live a fulfilled life without thirst.
