prophesied that the Babylon captives would return in two years (Jeremiah 28:1-4). Jeremiah on the other hand prophesied that the captives would return after 70 years. Whose prophecy is true? Jeremiah received words from God and passed them onto people. Thus, Jeremiah\u2019s words were correct. Through the Scriptures, we can learn about the identity of Jesus. Today\u2019s passage shows us the reactions of the Jews who heard Jesus\u2019 teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were three reactions. The first group of people called Jesus, the prophet. When they heard the words of Jesus, they said that this is the one about whom it was prophesied in the Scriptures. The prophet here is the prophet referred to by Moses. Moses said, \u201cThe Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him\u201d (Deuteronomy 18:15). Moses said that if God sends a prophet like himself, we must listen to him. Peter said to the Jews, \u201cMoses said, \u2018The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people\u2019\u201d (Acts 3:22-23). The ones who knew and believed in Jesus as the true prophet had accurate knowledge. We also believe in Jesus as the prophet referred to by Moses. Biblical knowledge that is based on faith brings salvation and benefit to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second group of people are the ones who knew Jesus as the Christ. They knew him accurately. When they heard Jesus\u2019 teaching, they said this is Christ. Our confession is similar. Christ is the One God promised to send. Moreover, Christ is God descended from heaven. Jesus is eternal as the Christ with divinity. Christ has the power of salvation. That is why Jesus of the cross and the resurrection is Christ. Jesus solved the problem of sin and death of man. As the Christ, Jesus is the king of the Jews and the king of kings. As one who is anointed, Jesus did ministry as a Messiah, king, priest, and prophet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third group of people knew where Jesus lived. They knew that Jesus was raised in Nazareth in Galilee. Because of this knowledge, they could not believe that Jesus is the Messiah. They said, \u201cHow can the Messiah come from Galilee? Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David\u2019s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?\u201d (v41-42). They possessed scriptural knowledge. Nevertheless, they were unbelievers. Some of those who do not go to church or who stopped going to church still have biblical knowledge. However, they do not believe it. The Pharisees and Sadducees had a wealth of knowledge of the Scriptures. They even knew that Christ would be born in Bethlehem. However, they did not believe in Jesus. We must believe in Jesus. The knowledge that is based on faith is accurate. Knowledge that is not based on faith is inaccurate and leads to unbelief.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even today there are many different people among those who listen to the word of God. There are those who hear with faith, those who hear with a negative and judgmental mind, and others who hear with a worldly and rational attitude. We must hear the Bible and sermons with faith. This leads us to salvation and enables us to gain accurate knowledge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who heard Jesus argued with each other. Each made their own assertions. They presented their own thoughts, and their opinions were not in agreement. There was dissension. The Korean Presbyterian church was originally one denomination. However, members had different opinions. Each group asserted their thoughts, and as a result, the church split into many different denominations. Even within the church, people have different opinions and assertions. Then there is conflict and dissension. We must be of one accord based on the teachings of the Bible and Jesus before we present our opinions and arguments. Then the church will not have conflict or dissension. We must possess correct knowledge about Jesus\u2019 teachings. We must accept and obey his teachings in humility. And we must make an effort to maintain unity and peace within the church. We must believe that Jesus of the cross and resurrection is the true prophet and Christ. We must make every effort to have correct knowledge about the Bible and the Lord, because incorrect knowledge does not give benefits to the life of faith.
