governor of Chosun at the Harbin station in China. This was because the governor was leading the Japanese effort to invade Korea. Thus, doctor Joong-geun Ahn was deemed a patriotic figure in Korea. The Bible shows us what makes a patriot. Today\u2019s passage teaches us this. The context of the passage is God\u2019s words spoken to Solomon after he had finished building the temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God tells Solomon to walk before him as David his father did. David was a good example to the Israelite kings. Therefore, if the Israelite kings live as David did, they would become exemplary. God tells Solomon to live faithfully like David. Living as David did means trusting in and loving only God and obeying his word. God gave the Law to all the Isralites, because he wanted them to live holy lives as distinguished people of God. God wanted Israel to learn and obey his word. Now David lived an exemplary life. Therefore, he tells Solomon to walk before him faithfully just as David his father did, keeping and obeying his word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus is a good example to people who live by faith. He loved and served God with all his mind, will, and soul. He obeyed the word of God even to the point of death. We ought to live like Jesus. We should follow his example and love and obey him. Apostle Paul followed Jesus\u2019 example (1 Corinthians 11:!). He lived in the way of the Lord, in obedience and faithfulness even unto death. He set an example for all the believers. We must obey the word of God just like David and become perfect. We especially must learn from and follow the example of our Lord Jesus Christ. We ought to serve, love, and obey the Lord with all our hearts just like him. We must obey the Lord\u2019s word just like Jesus who obeyed to the point of death. Faith without obedience is dead. Obedience pleases God. It is the way to fulfill the Lord\u2019s will. Obedience is like life in the living of faith. Disobedience makes us deviate from faith. It is the way of sin. It brings us into the way of destruction. Disobedience is showing contempt for God and stirs up his wrath. Solomon\u2019s disobedience and corruption led to the division of Israel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Solomon obeys the word of God, his royal throne would be secure. Obedience would lead to the persistence of the royal throne for Solomon and his descendants. However, if Solomon disobeys, he would suffer the consequences of disobedience (v6-7). If Solomon and his descendants disobey and worship idols, they bring about their own destruction. Disobedience leads to Israel\u2019s collapse (v7). It destroys the country\u2019s security, peace, and prosperity. Solomon and his descendants disobeyed. And as a result, they perished by the power of Assyria and Babylon. Manasseh, a king of Judah, disobeyed and worshipped idols. And his disobedience brought about Judah\u2019s collapse. We must remember: our disobedience leads us, our family, and even our country to the way of destruction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now what is the patriotism of a Christian, a believer? The highest patriotism for us is obeying the word of God. God promised Israel prosperity and peace if they obey. God saw people\u2019s obedience and protected Israel from other countries. Obedience is the shortcut to protecting our country and making it prosper. King Hezekiah and King Jehoshaphat trusted in God and obeyed. God saw this and gave prosperity, safety, and success.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel\u2019s disobedience invites the nation\u2019s collapse and rejection of the temple (v7). God saw the Israelite kings\u2019 disobedience. And he sent the troops of Nebuchadnezzer, the king of Babylon, and burned the temple. Disobedience corrupts our body, which is God\u2019s temple, and disgraces our Lord. But obedience makes God\u2019s temple holy and honorable. We must remember that disobedience dishonors God and his kingdom. It makes his kingdom an object of ridicule among unbelievers. It makes us become objects of ridicule and criticism by the people of this world. The sin of disobedience by those who go to church brings about disgrace and dishonors the holy name of God and the Lord Jesus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We must remember that the way of joy, prosperity, and peace for us, our family, and our children is in obedience. The patriotism of Christians is obeying the word of God just like Jesus. The sin of the Jews who disobeyed God and did not believe in Jesus brought about the country\u2019s destruction. The prosperity, safety, and peace of a nation are fulfilled through obedience in faith. We must remember that the way to love and protect our country is in obedience above all things.
