class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Those Belonging to God<\/strong> (John 8:45 &#8211; 47)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People have affiliations. Where do we belong? What community do we belong to? The Jews? Hebrews? Conservatives? Liberals? Now people have affiliations in accordance with their intention and will. Different communities have different personalities. Those who belong to the same community have the same mind and goals. So the members of the community create a bond. The family community shares everything in common, including joys and sorrows. Today\u2019s passage teaches us about who belongs to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the previous passage, Jesus presented evidence that the Jews were the children of the devil. Why are the Jews the devil\u2019s children? Why did Jesus say that they belong to the devil? Jesus says that there is a clear reason. Although Jesus tells them the truth, they do not believe him. Jesus is the Son of God, Christ the Savior. He is the life and the truth (John 14:6). The Jews did not believe in Jesus who spoke about the truth that leads them to salvation. They did not believe the Lord of Truth and his word because they believed in lies. This is proof that they do not belong to the truth but the devil, the father of lies. One who loves silver more than gold has their heart set on silver. Likewise, if a person hates the truth, it is because they love lies. Therefore, Jesus says that the Jews belong to their father, the devil, because they hate him, who is the truth, and loves falsehood.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those who do not like to listen to the word of God love to listen to the words of this world. This shows that they belong to the world. There was a pastor who preached the gospel to a person who was about to die. He accepted the words of this world well. But when the pastor preached the Word, he stubbornly refused it. This showed that he belonged to the world. Not believing in Jesus of the truth and his word means that they like something else. They believe in something other than Jesus. They do not follow the Spirit of Truth but the spirit of falsehood. Believing in Jesus and obeying him is the work of the Holy Spirit. On the other hand, denying the Lord of Truth and disobeying him are the work of the spirit of disobedience, that is, of the devil. This is evidence that we belong to the Holy Spirit: it is believing in Jesus of the truth as our Savior and obeying him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says, \u201cCan any of you prove me guilty of sin?\u201d (v46). All people are sinners. However, only Jesus has no sin. No one can say that he has sin. But the Jews were trying to condemn and kill him, who is forever righteous and holy. They themselves were committing a huge sin. The Jews who deny Jesus and follow the devil, the father of lies, receive condemnation. Jesus is the Judge of all people (Matthew 25:31-46; 2 Corinthians 5:10). The Jews who do not believe the Lord will receive judgment. Every person will receive what they deserve before the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus tells the Jews why they do not believe in him, who is telling the truth. He says, \u201cThose who belong to God listen to the word of God.\u201d A person who belongs to God listens to Jesus\u2019 word and believes. Jesus\u2019 disciples heard his word and believed. They belong to God. His disciples heard his word and obeyed. They did not refuse to hear or reject his word. They loved, enjoyed, and obeyed the word of Jesus. This is a sure evidence that they belong to God. Whoever does not believe in the word of Jesus, rejects it, and disobeys it shows that they do not belong to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says that the Jews do not belong to God. For they did not listen to his word. This is evidence that they belong somewhere else. People who do not listen to the word of our Lord or obey it reveal that they do not belong to God. They reveal that they belong elsewhere. Judas Iscariot did not believe in Jesus and eventually betrayed him. He does not belong to God. He went to the place that belongs to the devil. We have to remember that we must listen to the word of our Lord and love, believe, rejoice with, and obey it. This is evidence that we belong to God. We must evaluate our faith before the word of the Lord, who is the truth and the judge. And we must believe in, love, and practice the truth as those belonging to God.
