class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Honoring God<\/strong> (John 8:48 &#8211; 50)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When David sinned, God sent Prophet Nathan to him. Nathan rebuked David for the sin he committed before God. As soon as David heard the rebuke, he repented. Hearing Jesus\u2019 words and repenting and obeying are God\u2019s will. The Jews, however, heard Jesus\u2019 rebuke but did not repent. They did not believe Jesus, who spoke the truth. It is proof that they do not belong to God. Today\u2019s passage is about the Jews\u2019 reaction to Jesus\u2019 rebuke and his answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two reactions to rebuke. One is repentance and the other is remorselessness. The Israelites who disobeyed heard God\u2019s rebuke but did not repent. The result was God\u2019s punishment. The Jews who do not believe, oppose, and persecute Jesus say of him that he is a Samaritan and demon-possessed. This is a huge crime and blasphemy. Jesus is not a Samaritan. He is from the town of Nazareth in Galilee. The Jews are demeaning and ridiculing Jesus. The Samaritans do not have the pure blood of the Jews. They are mixed with gentiles. Therefore, the Jews considered Samaritans as sinners who belong to the gentiles and cut ties. Calling Jesus a Samaritan was a derision.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Jews also say that Jesus is demon-possessed. This statement is a contempt and blasphemy against Christ the Son of God, and it is a huge sin. Jesus was born through the Holy Spirit. Jesus lived by the Holy Spirit. He preached the Word through the Spirit. He performed power by the Holy Spirit. He healed the sick by the Holy Spirit. He performed miracles by the Holy Spirit. He drove out demons through the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:28). All Jesus\u2019 ministry is accomplished through the Holy Spirit. Our life of faith is also fulfilled through the Holy Spirit. We cannot live the life of faith without the Holy Spirit. We believe, learn the Word, obey, and pray through the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus of the Spirit and Truth responds to the Jews, \u201cI am not possessed by a demon but I honor my Father and you dishonor me\u201d (v49). Jesus came not with the power of a demon but of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, Jesus says that he is not possessed by a demon. Jesus says, \u2018I minister with the fullness of the power of the Spirit of God. All of my ministry is that of the Holy Spirit. I do the work of God with the Spirit. I obey the Father with the Holy Spirit. So I honor and serve God the Father. However, you are mocking me.\u2019 The Jews are saying things they should never utter. These words come from unbelief in Jesus. When a person does not believe in Jesus, they cannot correctly know him. That is why the Jews were saying mocking words. Those who believe in Jesus as Christ the Savior, on the other hand, obey and honor him. Those who believe in Jesus and obey him are perfect before God. Faith makes people have the right thoughts and say the right words according to what the Lord wants. It is by faith that we please and glorify Jesus. When a person does not believe, they despise Jesus and when they believe, they honor him. We must live by faith and always honor the Lord.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus says, \u201cI am not seeking glory for myself; but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge\u201d (v50). Jesus, who deserves to receive all honor, glory and praise, did not seek his own glory. He only sought the glory of the Father who sent him. He obeyed the Father\u2019s word even to death. Jesus humbled himself, being despised and insulted, but glorified the Father. We must follow the example of Jesus and obey the Lord. Even though we are despised and insulted, we ought to glorify the Lord. That is our duty as those who believe in the Lord Jesus as the Savior and serve him. Jesus lived a life obedient to God the Father. And his obedience glorified God (Philippians 2:11). To glorify and honor the Lord, we must obey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus did not seek his own glory, but God glorified him. This was revealed in the obedient life. When Jesus obeyed the Father, God glorified the Son Jesus, who obeyed him. God saw the life of Jesus who obeyed him and judged him. Likewise, the Lord sees our lives and judges us. We must not seek our glory before the Lord. We must seek the glory of the Lord. For this, we must obey the Lord. For only obedience seeks the glory of God, just like Jesus.
